how do i make a gif?

i want to change my avatar to something animated, and i know what i want (it's just three frames) so can someone advise me some free software and a quick explanation? i have paint shop pro photo X2 if that can do it.

EDIT: actually, is it possible to take a 2-3 second film, make it a gif then resize it? it'd be easier than trying to resize 3 frames of a youtube video to the exact same size.

Well I use GIMP in combination with GIFsoup.com or youtube downloader plus video to .jpg converter. If you use Gifsoup.com then you just have to resize it and crop as needed. In order to do it from pics you just select all pics then drag and drop into GIMP, crop/resize all layers and save as .gif. There are tons of how to videos on youtube and tutorials on GIMPs website so just get to searchin

I use Photoshop CS3 and make screenshots of the frames I want to use.

It's very Low grade, but requires no Account and is good enough for most Basic .gif creations

But other people use much better tools here, so be sure to keep looking.

Try gickr.com or download the video and use video to .jpg conversion programs
