Is there something I can down load? I just got a ps3 slim. I think it's the 120 gig. Thanks for your help.

I think it's only available on the early original models, there were issues, mostly involving costs so the function was removed.

PS3 slims do not have backward compatibility.
/thread.

Nothing else needs to be added here. I'm only typing this so the mods don't come after me.

Very simple, you don't.

If you've bought a slim you have no PS2 compatability, at all, ever.

Have you sacrificed two goats and a baby lamb to Sony yet? Remember: You need to collect the blood and then scatter it on an oat field.

If you scatter it on a wheat field it won't work.

Only the old 80gb PS3s are backwards compatible. Sorry buddy, but your PS3 slim can't play ps2 games.

You could put the disc in and then launch the PS3 at a very nice TV for no apparent reason and just pray.

By putting your PS2 into a PS3 case. Dunno how, but modders do stuff like that all the time...though from what Ive seen, putting them into toasters than other systems.

60 gig as well. Apparently mine is a limited edition PS3. I play PS1 games on mine all the time.

Only the fat PS3s with 80gbs or the old 60s can do it. I think that was why they were fat in the first place. I believe you can get used ones for under $300 now.

Go on eBay and buy the old 60gb versions but with them being hard to get hold of because they are discontinued expect to pay a hard to afford price.

I heard that they were working on being able to emulate the PS2 hardware through a future update. Sony patented a method to emulate the PS2 on the PS3 through use of the cell chip, although im not sure how. As to whether it will ever amount to anything, who knows?

but anyways, yeah, there is no PS2 compatibility on the PS3 slim at this time.

The software emulation is what was in the last set of PS3's before they cut compatability. They've already done it and cut it as well.

The first ones had PS2 hardware, the next ones had software emulation and the generation before the slim had none at all. The word from Sony is that PS2 compatability is gone, it's one of the things they cut to try and make the PS3 less expensive to make and the official line is it's gone, dead and buried.

The Japanese and American 60GB models had hardware backwards compatibily. The European 60GB model had software backwards compatibility. All other models do not have any PS2 compatibility.

I'm lucky enough to have a European launch PS3, although I live in fear of the day Sony "patches" my console.

All PS3's however can play PS1 games.

Yeah, i know that they did use software compatibility for a while (namely in the European versions of the consoles) but it was lame, half assed and useless. In the past year they have been on working on new, more effective ways of emulating PS2 software:
http://kotaku.com/5304117/sony-patents-method-to-emulate-ps2-on-ps3
http://www.destructoid.com/sony-patents-ps2-emulation-software-for-ps3--138022.phtml
read it yourself. As to whether it will lead to anything, who knows? As to whether it will be solely used for downloading games, who knows? As to whether its been trashed? I have no clue. All i know is that PS2 emulation will probably never be off the cards

That is why I won't buy a three. That's what killed it for me. I have a ton of two and one games and my ps2 is starting to go.

Or maybe I'll go find a 60gig.
