I bought minecraft today earlier (yay) and im loving it so far. One of my friends bought it roughly the same time i did, and we both agreed we need to play multiplayer.

I downloaded the server tool thingy off the minecraft website, and its all up and running but, were not sure how to access it lol. I tried typing in my own IP adress on minecraft and it wouldnt connect.

"Failed to connect to the server
Connection refused: Connect"

That didnt seem to work :S

Is it not working because of that DDoS attack thing or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks, Kratenser

if you're hosting it on the different machine on your network, your IP should be a local network IP, not your routers IP.

...or 127.0.0.1 if its on the same machine.

He'd need to use the IP assigned to your router, and a port needs to be opened i'm sure.

The reason we making our own server is because we want to avoid the typical sandbox game online issue:
Logging on the next day to discover someone has destroyed your base.

We want to make a little base and add to it over the next couple of weeks or so lol.
Plus it means that anyone else we know who gets minecraft can join us :D

Dont really expect people to understand us lol

I'm not exactly sure how to go about setting up your own server. I know there are step-by-step threads here, though: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewforum.php?f=1013&sid=eb073d61c4afba10728ef97b5b86f3ae

That being said, you might want to consider joining somebody else's server with your friend. Would probably be way more hassle-free. Here are the servers everyone has set up (some have interesting variations on the gameplay): http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewforum.php?f=1014&sid=eb073d61c4afba10728ef97b5b86f3ae
theres also the official Escapist server and then this group:
