How do shows like Mythbusters get their hands on fully automatic weapons?

They work with FBI and Police alot. That can help. Also that whole being-in-the-USA thing.

I'm sure it also helps that the company they own (M5 studios) is actually a special effects company and has ties to movie studios which opens up all sort of avenues. Plus they work with the FBI, military, and local police for a lot stuff so they probably just ask. I must say that watching them take a minigun to a barrel of fish was highly entertaining.
