How do some games get released?

I'm sure most people have heard of this game but its Big Rigs Over the Road Racing. It's been claimed to be the worst game ever, and it was released in 2003. My question is, how did the developer release a game so critically flawed, with absolutely nothing working?? I mean who in their right mind would risk the backlash to let a game like that out? Also, I'm sure plenty of other games have been pretty crappy and still get released, so I would like to hear other peoples thoughts on how these things actually get released.

Here's a link to gamespots review of it, probably the funniest one I've read so far: Big Rigs Review [http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/bigrigsotrr/review.html]

That's been bothering me a lot, lately.

The same applies to movie-based video games. Great ideas are failed. Ironman, for example. It could have been good, if only they didn't try to make it just like the movie. The movie was great. The game? Not so much.

Though, there was a Hulk game that came out awhile ago. You controlled the Hulk as he jumped around a city? That was fun. You could destroy whatever you wanted. THEY did it right.

Part of the blame has to do with the people who playtest/rate/review the games, such as the *wonderful* people at the ESRB. They don't know what gamers want. They know what they see, so when they see a game about racing big rigs around horrible environments, they - and don't quote me on this - automatically assume it's better than a game that involves mass murder, hijacking and explosions, a la Grand Theft Auto.

You put some gamers in a room to review video games coming out and see how great the future turns out.

Here is a link to an awesome article on the development and eventual catastrophe that was New Coke (Coca-Cola) in 1985. http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=964

It's long, but it lays out how companies make some baffling mistakes. I think this is pretty much what happens at game companies when they release games like Big Rigs and movie adaptions albiet on a smaller scale.

Games like Stalker clear sky, more game crippling bugs than i have fingers, somtimes they are left in due to time constraints, but clear sky had so many, that made the game unplayable it made me wonder who the hell was playtesting it.

I loved that review, it gave me several good laughs. "Please do not play this game. We cannot stress this enough."
