How Do You Avoid Low-Content Posts?

I try to use more than one sentence.

At least as a general rule. Each sentence also usually has more to say than something that could be used as a off hand remark or one-word-sentences like "Yes." or "That's cool."

What counts as content just has to relate to the topic of the thread at hand. Like for example, posts that just say "First." can be applied to just about every thread without adding new or useful information.

Content may also appear in the form of jokes, where the "First." comments may count as in that one LRR video about people who say "First." which subverts the point made in the video.

If you can't think of anything to say, don't post.

This is exactly what I was going to say. If I can't be bothered to reply with more than one sentence or one word then obviously my post wasn't really needed and no-one can really be interested in seeing my post in the first place.

As an example, if there was a thread about countries we wanted to visit and I answered Australia and left it at that I haven't really provided any content. If I took a minute to say why I want to go there and what I would want to do there then I have avoided it.

In short, ask yourself: "Do I have something to say on this subject?" If yes post, if not, do not post.
