How do you deal with online arguments?

We've all been there. You know, just playin our favorite online game when suddenly, some foul-mouthed angry SOB starts talking strash to us. How you do YOU react? Fight back? Ignore?

Personally, I do something in between. At first I just listen and agree with WHATEVER they say. Once they are done, I point out how rediculous it is to argue on xbox live, then point out every mistake that they make. It makes more sense if you hear the conversation, and it always ends with them speechless.

And don't give me any "I've never been in a online rage fest" If hyou haven't, then don't post.

I generally try to remain civil, but also give underlying indirect insults.

I usually just say "Cool story, bro." or "You mad." and cut it off.

After all, trolls must not be fed.

I used to play on a lot of american TF2 servers, and I'd get a lot of grief about my voice. This was when I was on top of my sniping game (I've not played in a while so it's gonna take me a while to get back there). So basically, someone would be like.

"Hey! What the fucks up with your voice? You sound like a ******! hurr hurr hurr!"

And I'd respond with a challenge.

"You know what? When you can actually kill me, you can trash talk me. Until then, you can keep your fucking mouth shut, because you're only embarrassing yourself."

Then, every time I put a bullet through their brain,I'd laugh at them for being really fucking shit at TF2. To this day, somewhat miraculously, after laying down that challenge, I have never actually been killed by the person who mocked me. Hells, they've been heavies and I have meleed them to death with the machete. Oh, the gloating reaches new highs when that happens. Eventually, they ragequit. If people don't insult me, I'm otherwise a lovely person.

Make fun of them. Laugh. And if all else fails, mute them. If you go with that option, make sure they understand that while they can still hear you, you can't hear them.

Usually if its on Xbox Live I just respond with "cool story bro". Usually works, pisses them off more into a hilarious rage.

Its especially hilarious when they send a large-worded message about how much I love male genitalia and I just respond that way.

I tend to try and find flaw with any statements made toward me, which then leads to them calling me predictable names in an attempt to restore a sense of self-esteem due to their embarassment.

Staying calm and just dealing with the person is usually enough to shut them up.

I troll them, because it's fun. I don't randomly start it up, but if someone else does then I'll do it back, but better. That makes them rage (which makes me laugh), and when they send hate messages after the match I use a fun bit of advice a guy called Sage Francis gave me.

Most of the time I'm the one causing people to rage and whenever it happens to me I swear so much the other person just gives up.

For xbox live if they even so much as start cussing when they come in to a party, sound like a dick, or something along those lines they get muted without me ever telling them. It's funny when I play Halo and there is a person giving me trash, I shoot out their shields. I never kill them. So when they get mad enough, they keep killing me and I boot. Ah... I love doing that. Trolls anger blind them usually and sometimes you just have to wonder what they are saying.

But on the internet, I dare not feed the troll if I know that person is trolling. And if they call me a fag, I go with it. I just say how I'm gay and make up a story. That either feeds them a lot more or shuts them up quite fast because they are homophobic.

One time someone got angry at me in Team Fortress 2 because I was using the Sniper class and kept killing him with shots to the body instead of the head. He typed something about how what I was doing was cheap and Noobish. I typed back a kill is a kill and I ignored the other posts he typed. Usually I just ignore someone when they try to start an argument over the internet.
