How do you define one?

I don't think someone's a fanboy just for liking something.

Only when they waste their time advertising (insert product here) on a video, thread, or whatever where it's not being talked about,
or display their lack of knowledge about the product while trying to advertise said product, do I consider them a fanboy.

Finally a normal captcha! I been getting algebra all day!

When they are unwilling to listen to any criticism about their thing and rage at anyone who says anything remotely negative.

And algebraic captcha sounds hilarious.

You guys seem to be thinking of the [a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FanDumb]fan-dumb...[/a] very very different than a fanboy/girl. To me, a fanboy is any guy capable of making a squee noise when he hears something exciting about his object of fanboyism, like a sequel or expansion pack.

when they let their love for something blind them of facts, one has to learn to accept that everything has flaws, but that is ok, because there will be always something to improve

I would just consider that an extreme fan. "Fanboy" is a derogatory term.

A child who dares mock me and try to counter every thing I say that is negative towards their precious item.

I've never thought of it as a totally derogatory term. Sure, in some cases it may be used as such, but that's not how I generally define it. To me a fanboy/girl is just someone who is really really into a certain topic/game/show/etc. The fandom is still capable of making criticism for a certain iteration in their series. Like Resistance 2. I'm a huge fanboy of Insomniac, but I, along with many others in the fandom, didn't like that they went for regenerating health and a limit of two weapons in Resistance 2. The fandom spoke up and Insomniac listened, going back to a weapon wheel and health bar in R3.

Yup you hit the nail on the head.
Exactly this.
Fanboy/girl is different from fan, because a fan can devote their entire life to (insert anything here) and love it dearly, but as soon as they ignore criticism and back up their arguments with "MY X IS BETTER THAN YOUR Y" and generally ignore logical process, they become a fanboy/girl.
I consider fanboy/girl analogous to fanatic.

When they will not listen to any argument that says other games are as good as theirs.
Or they won't play anything other than a single game.
Really, generally, if they are ignorant or stupid about the topic.

Pretty mush viewing the said game/ media as the superior one of them all or the absolute. They will dimiss any other similer media or criticism as the inferior and in the wrong when it is in fac right.

Oh come now... none of you have ever made a [a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Squee]squee[/a] noise before? I sure as hell know I have. To me that's what marks a fanboy/girl, not the aggressiveness. LittleBigPlanet trailer? I squee at that. New Patapon game? Effin' squee. N: The Way of the Ninja V1.5 announced? Mega-squee. Sure, I don't like it when someone just says "That game sucks" but it's not like I believe they're absolutely perfect.

And vice-versa, if they rage at anyone who says something positive about an element they don't like, or interpret that as a passive-aggressive diss to the game/character/ship/company/feature they do like.

You can usually pick a stan by how bass-ackwards, contradictory and hypocritical their defensive arguments are, too. Instead of accepting that people have different opinions, they'll often revert to a reliance on some kind of logical fallacy to "prove" that their opinion is right.

I always find it hilarious when some stan will say that their favourite game sold well so therefore that's an objective indicator of its quality, then in their very next post bash Call Of Duty or some other way more popular franchise and say it sucks and that people have no taste. I'm just like oh...

See but this is my point. Everyone else uses the term "fanboy" as a derogatory term, and define it accordingly. No one hanging out on a gaming forum is going to insult regular fans, but this is the word used to describe the annoying ones.

Someone who is prejudice to like a certain concrete object or abstract concept. It's usually limited in it's scope of use since people who are fanboys of racism are often given different names. It's a broad term and can be applied to pretty much anyone.

Well I am definitely familiar with how that's used in a derogatory sense so, yeah, I can see the idea. I suppose we're all aware of how a word can have two very different connotations based on where it's said, considering we're all total geeks, so I can certainly see the split here.

Pretty much, but it's not just rage. Most of them will call you a troll, say retarded stuff like "Go back to (hated game)" or will just act as if you're somehow an inferior being due to you not liking his/her game.

Because if they like it, it MUST be a good game and whoever disagrees with it is stoopid! Forget about civil discussions, those are for wimps!
