Say for instance you created a game, comic, video, song. If it was put upon someone's judgment, how would you react to it.

Note: We're talking about negative criticism.

Me? Personally I would be pissed the hell of if someone disregarded my work as trash, even if I didn't really put forth that effort. Its just that who are YOU to tell me whats good and whats bad?

I take criticism as a form of motivation. If I'm told I'm bad at something, I work harder to get better at it.

My "taste" in everything is criticized. I'm an outspoken underdog who was apparently raised by one culture & lives another & is two & 1/2 decades behind the times. But in the end, I think I'm the one who criticizes the others for their taste the most, so don;t I deserve it?

I've always listened to good criticism and blown off the bad. Negative criticism can be good when given thoughtfully. When it's given with the sole purpose of deriding the person and/or work, then I just blow it off.

I welcome constructive criticism but when someone's just being a fucking dick about it, they can go straight to hell.

Like for instance, I love writing. I write short stories all the time and post them on several websites to get constructive criticism on them.

I mostly get positive responses and people who take it seriously but every once in a while, I'll get some dick who think's he's funny and he'll give it a low rating and post some smartass comment or act all offended by the subject matter.

Those people can just fuck right off though

That's a good question. I suppose I'd have to experience it to see my reaction, but I assume I'd be a little bit sad about it. I guess it would also depend on how much effort I put into the thing they were criticizing.

I say to my self I wouldn't be offended now, but if its really harsh or the critic is just being a dick I could see my self feeling the same way as you.

They can be pissed at you for feeling that way as well. Who are YOU to tell people if their opinion is right/wrong?

OT: I'd accept their opinion and take it into consideration in the future.

There's always going to be people who are constructive and other people who are going to be asses about it. If they have nothing helpful to say, then we use the flames to toast marshmellows.

You know, that's the problem with most movie reviewers. Their critiques are subjective & not constructive.

It depends who it is that is giving me the feedback. If it is my head chef criticising my work then obviously I will take it on board and work on it since he knows what he is talking about. If my head chef is criticising my performance in a rugby match I will ignore him since he doesn't have a clue.

To me, criticism is only meaningful if it comes from someone who matters to you. Other then that, it has no effect on me. I'm not going to care what random people think about me, because it's their problem and I certainly won't allow it to become mine. :D
I agree with this.

I'm open-minded to criticism. It's when they just flat-out insult me and not giving me any pointers that frustrate me a bit.

I am infallible, whatever I touch turns to gold, and you're an idiot if you disagree. If you dare smash that delightful delusion I have created for myself, I will hunt you down.

Sometimes very crumby.
But pun's a side I take it well until it gets to the insult stage.

I never said it was right or wrong. I just said who are you to tell me.

Then you probably should have worded it better, because there was a huge implication that you are angry at their opinion, or asking for one, which completely dismisses your argument.

That depends.

Are we talking about constructive criticism or outright antagonism here?

Well... speaking from experience here, you learn to take the good with the bad. I've learned that there are three type of critics. On one hand you have the "meh" crowd whom don't offer anything to a creator. Then on the other you have the "constructive" crowd who's complaints are generally well written and make a point. On the third hand...which as I'm typing this doesn't make a bit of damn sense... you have people who offer constructive criticism, but what they propose is far worse (in your opinion) than what you made in the first place.

Well, I'll either feel ashamed of my work that I didn't do what I wanted, which is to entertain/please, but I'll do my best to appeal to the reviewer's standards.

Unless the reviewer is being negative for the sake of being an elitist douche, then I'd just ignore the person.
