Hey guys, this is something that's been bugging me,, how do you get something off your mind?
When something happens I have this thing where I look at it from every possible angle and dissect the hell out of it to fully understand.
Say someone hit their dog, I'd wonder why the did it, what makes them think it's okay, when they decided they were above another mammal, if it carries over to anything else, etc.

The only thing is, sometimes I can't stop thinking about the subject, and then it just gets to be too much.
The REAL sucky thing is, if my brain is actively thinking about something, I can't sleep, which leads me to rely on Valium or weed or something to knock me out after about 4 hours of staring at the ceiling.

Does this ever happen to anyone else? And if it does [hell, if it doesn't] is there any advice I can take away from this.

I usually play an FPS. Especially online, it forces you to focus on something else, namely the enemy. It helps me at least, especially L4D. Zombie slaughter makes a great stress reliever.

I do math.

Just some stuff. But math isn't something you can do while thinking about something else and hope to get the answer right.

Or I sit quietly and paint my model soldiers.
Get a nice silent hobby. That you can all ways add to or do something with. Like painting.

This is kind of complicated, well here goes: the more you try not to think about something the harder it is to not think about it so I say to myself "dont think about magnets" which gets me to think about magnets. Hopefully someone will get this

I don't really have that problem. My mind flickers from one subject to the next so fast its hard to focus and I forget things really easily. I guess the best thing is to do something which requires your total attention, it makes you change your mind's point of focus and move on from what you were stuck on.

Video games or alcohol. I can even do both.

"I'm drunk! Ye don't have an excuse!"

Seriously though, I was still top in a Halo 3 slayer match; that's how rubbish some people are.

I look for a new hobby, or paint. Karoke(sp?) is good for what ails you as well. Belting out some Journey kinda takes the edge off.

I generally go for a walk, although I'm more likely to do so if I'm left without any other options.

Example: Not too long ago the power cut off and I was without electric for twelve hours, I am excessively particular about things like this, I may laze around and do very little that is constructive, but my chaos is harmonised and if something goes wrong then I'll start chewing bedcovers and hoping that whomever is responsible for my electricity not being fixed is eaten. Especially when the town nearby has got their elecricity back on.

After a long walk by night however, I had done away with my homicidal thoughts and decided that I may as well just play Animal Crossing.

And I live in the Country, so I can go for walks at any time without being knifed.
