How do you make 42 hours disappear?

Play Fallout New Vegas for that amount of time, then fall through a floor in the Securitron Bunker, and realize that the switch is on the other side of the hatch, and have your last save be IN the bunker.

42 hours of my life I'll never get back.

I apologize for this thread, but I am actually so distraught right now, it's hard to believe.

Though, I don't want to turn this into a hate thread, more of a "Share the pain" thread. I still love New Vegas, I just don't know if I LIKE it right now.

Anyways, Escapists, I know this isn't an original thread, but let the pain out. Tell us about your horror stories of losing all that data, tell us of that game crash at the FINAL boss battle, tell us of that dreaded corrupted data. Be empathetic to your fellow online chums.

Noclip?

OT: I don't have any horror stories like that one but, through bizarre internet problems my Bioshock 2 saves, well, didn't save. And I'd played all the way up to the 3rd to last setting in one go. Felt bad man.

Same thing happened to me, but on a different game. In Stalker, I spent hours exploring, only to come back to a locked door that led to a character I needed to talk to to advance the story. Turns out it's a bug that closes the door, and there's no fix. This was years ago and I've yet to pick the game up again.

Losing a seventy-or-so hour Pokemon save because your friend wanted to play a new game.

Trying to beat MGS4 on The Boss Hard, without having a single alert phase, or killing an enemy, or having a single continue, only to be put into an Alert phase on Outer Haven, then dying, with my last save being right there. Had to restart the game. ._.

Dragon Age Origins has been rather unstable for me lately, though I'm pretty sure I know why. My disk was scratched so I had to install the game from an ISO. My computer still recognizes the disk, thankfully, I just can't use it to install. Anyways, I'm getting off topic. I tend to quick save a lot, so I rarely have to do very much again. But it's still annoying to have to play various bits over and over if the game decides to be REALLY unstable.

I also had to start over San Andreas once I decided to install a mod. Turns out I bought the version of the game that doesn't allow modding, so I had to download a fan-made patch which unfortunately rendered all of my older saves useless. Luckily I wasn't too far in, but I still had to play for a few hours before I got back to where I was.

I had just finished the final boss battle in Kingdom Hearts and was about to watch the cut scene, when my friend accidentally kicked the eject button the PS2. Cue death threats directed at my friend, and a power run through the final bosses. I was having my cut scene, dammit!

If you're on the PC, there are console options you can use to get yourself back to a playable state.

If you're not (even if you are) you need to learn the lesson that we've all had to learn - make many many saves... my first time through a game, I use as many saves as I can.

I guess I should tell a story rather then just berating you for not following classic video game rules

My friend borrowed my old 360 to play Mass Effect 1. That's all that 360 would play for some reason. Every other disc was unreadable. Anyway, he borrowed it, got all the way to the part where you race to the Conduit (about 20 minutes from the end of the game), and he died. And for some reason, he kept dying over and over and over.

I told him to bring the hard drive over to my place, we'd load up his save, and I'd get him past that part (I've never had a problem on it, even on Insanity, I don't know WHAT he was doing wrong).

Anyway, he brings the hard drive over, and we get an error that says something like: "Bring Down the Sky DLC is corrupted." I bought the DLC for myself, and I didn't think that he'd even be able to use it on his game, so I didn't bother deleting it off the hard drive when I lent it to him. So I asked "Hey man, did you save Terra Nova from the meteor?" and he's like "Yeah, that was a great mission".. "Wow, that's weird". So I try and download the DLC again.. File still won't open with his account, even with freshly downloaded DLC. He brought it home in defeat, and the game wouldn't even load on the system he originally played it on.

I really have no real explanations

Mass Effect, at least the first one is really bitchy. My GF and I found this out the hard way when we were switching between our 360s at one point. Basically saves CANNOT be ported to another console. Even if you're shuffling the hard drives around.

I feel the pain. For some insane reason the game kept crashing in one of the late game missions.
Happend 4 times straight.
After that i loaded a save from a few hours before, played 20 minutes and had it crash on me again.

I sold the bastard and bought Fable 3.

That's how I fixed a few of my New Vegas problems. Yet another reason why I love PC gaming. ^_^

You think losing 42 is bad?

I used to only use one save for my Morrowind game file. It had 150+ hours on it. And it got corrupted.

From then on, I saved in a new slot every time.

On a side note, I had hundreds of save files (most of them pretty big) and my XBox hard drive still said it had 50,000+ blocks left.

Anyway. I say pish to your current plight.

Mass Effect 1 :)

Got stuck in an elevator and had to reload the last autosave.

Later, I accidently Deleted a 50+ hour savegame batch instead of moving it. Still dn't know how that happend.
