So, I've attempted to make a few threads (mostly unsuccessfully) and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make a successful thread (+100 replies.) Is it the title? Are there rules to how long you make the OT? Etcetera. Discuss, so maybe I can create a one someone will actually read.

Just come up with a good, interesting title, and have a good topic, present a question that has a lot of room for discussion and post. Simple really.

This thread will really help you.
That was the exact thread I was thinking of when I read the title. Kudos to you for getting there first :p

Make something the community can enjoy is often the best way to make a good thread. Take some of the more succesful threads on here, like the Holiday Council or the Artist in Thee. They give the community an oppurunity to interact with them, either way changing their avatar (like IdealistCommi right there) or by the contribution and discussion of art. That's the best way to make a good thread.

Replies and thread views are hardly everything.

A successful thread is not a "popular" one by any standards. If your thread generates some nice, intelligent discussion and can encourage the fine people of this forum to debate over it or discuss it, then you can consider it a success.

If you want badges for people posting, make something stupid and controversial. (Just kidding).

There aren't any real secrets to getting a popular thread. Just try to make a pleasant discussion.

Try and make a thread that'll get people thinking.
Or write a review of your friends and let the madness run riot.
Hey, the second option worked for me.

If you want a thousand replies, pick a topic you know will become a flame war. Here's a few to get you started:
-Religion
-Aithism
-Twilight
-Fascism vs Communism
-Politics in general

Oh and dont forget this:

Have fun posting!
