In D&D i tend to be a cowardly/lol (seriously, a character that makes others lol. I didn't use "lol" here just to mimic the thread-maker.) ranger who's chaotic good. Often i play a bard, since i like how he can do everything. In oblivion and Morrowind i ended up with some weird self-made class that wanted to use every bloody skill and ability in the game, and thanks to that, got his ass beat by a mud-crab. Seriously, whenever i play a game with a lot of content and character-building, then i mess up just like that.

However, I have never played an evil character. I've tried several times, but dammit, i cannot go the evil way. For the greater good, yes. But not evil.

And for class, i usually go for mage (Oblivion). I rarely play anything sneaky (only rogue i have is a level 14 in DDO). I don't really like being just with a sword (warrior) , it seems a bit dull.

Also, in Mass Effect, i played the class that used shotguns and levitate-thingy. And i loved my character.
My overuse of 'lol' is getting brought up a lot today... lol... :p

I remember in morrowwind, i gathered enough money, without cheats, to make a spell i aptly named 'death'. I needed to use cheats to have enough mana to use it, and enough health to survive it! (in the occasion that it backfired somehow...)It did like a 1000 damage to weapon, armour and weapons for 1000 seconds in 1000' redius... I killed Balmora with it... And I used it when i got scarred nearer the end game! Damn ash vampires!

In morality games, I always end up being evil... Being good becomes boring and mundane to me :p

I tend to err on the side of support roles lately. Engineer in TF2, Druid in wow, etc etc.

In Dragon Age: Origins, I played as a rogue dwarf, mostly cause I'm what you'd call a loot whore. Picking locks, turning invisible, and pounding the crap out of a demon with dual-wielding attacks: that's how I role!!

I love more or less useless supporters with a little magic and some rogueish parts.

Bards, Jesters, Schelms, In Shadowrun its a Ganger/Ki-Adept.
If such isnt provided by the game, I mostly start with a fighterclass, because its mostly the easiest class for a first playthrough.
I dont really like casters, only in well made PnP Games that let me design them as i want them.

Usually a kind of rogue/warrior/all rounder. Take Oblivion for example (the only RP I really play the fuck out of); My main character is a Dark Elf, using light armour, blade, sneak, marksman, destruction magic etc... So I get a good all rounder, capable of assasin work and actually fighting. Most of my characters are that kind of thing, usually without any magical abilities.

So, lol, to recap:

Mage: Lol, hero and incredibly nice.
Not-a-mage-lol: Fairly nice but likes a reward for his actions.
Warriorlol: He wants money and power and doesn't care how he gets it. But he won't kill grannies lol.
Ironically, this post made me very much lol.

Anylol, I usually lol a balolance of magic and combat, hate being too fragilole.

In Mass Effect I DON'T play the infuriatingly inflection-incapable idiot, so that leaves me as female. My class doesn't really tend to matter, but she tends to be full paragon unless the renegade option is just WAY TOO GOOD to pass up.

In pretty much everything I play, give me a high chance of not being seen and something to snipe people with and I'm a happy camper in the combat sections. Which is to say I think that if I actually ENTER COMBAT I'm doing it WRONG. In the story sections, I'll also try to keep the most people alive that I can manage, so if negotiations are possible, I will be doing them.

Oh, that's hard. I'm a IRL and internet RP:er so I try to vary my characters.

But I do have a pre-love for dark magic, healing and heavy weapons are also awesome.

Played a female Belf Warlock when I was a raider in WoW. I love playing my Warrior and my Arcane Warrior in DAO. I played a... can't remember what they're called, but the charging biotic types in Mass Effect? Always specialize in small guns and intellect and charisma when playing Fallout 3(love sniping).

It's a variety, in other words. I do prefer to just beat things til they die, but if I can have a balanced mix of biting heads off AND (preferably healing) magic, then I'm all over it.

In a IRL RP I play a voodoo, cannibal witch named Pandora who can talk with spirits, localize remains and transform into a huge tiger that can deal out massive damage. Yes, it sounds terribly overpowered, but it's a sort of anime RP, so most of the other players are tons stronger than Pandora, even though she's one of my favorites.

I usually play a wise and benevolent mage as my first choice. Always liked good wizards for some reason.

Ironically I tend not to enjoy evil mage types (Warlocks, Necromancers) all that much and get annoyed when they seem to invariably outpower the good guys stat wise.

My second choice is typically a warrior of some sort.

I'm pretty stereotypical I guess, gender choice largely depends on the game in question and my mood.

As odd as this will sound, one thing I have noticed is that game developers seem to put a lot more time into their female character artwork. Typically if you want to have a character that looks good, your inevitably going to have to make a girl. There are exceptions, but one of the key examples I can think of is back in "classic" WoW when I was running AQ my character (a male mage, called Therumancer... surprise) wound up spending a long time wearing a pink mumu. The outfit looked pretty cool for a female avatar, but for a dude it looked ridiculous. Another example would be if you ever played old school EQ and compared the male and female Dark Elf models for wearing equipment, where they gave the male dark elves these bloody beanie hats to wear.

At any rate I think noone has said it better than Cranius in this song, all MMO developers PLEASE pay attention:

I like going for a jack-of-all-trades character; usually light or medium armor depending on the game, with the most reliable standard weapons and spells; sometimes taking on the role of healer or battlefield medic if my allies are all too retarded to do it for themselves.
Sounds dull I know but means that my characters can usually handle most situations.

This Thread is Exactly the kind of thread I'll quote when in an argument where the topic is 'Why does RPG need to be defined CRPG when talking about computer games, vs 'Role' Playing games'

How many people on here even know what 'role' is? I see quote for classes, race choices, spells, computer Hack and Slash terminology. WTF?

C'mon people.. does anyone here actually know how to roleplay or do you all just kill everything and teabag it and your GM laughs.

An Educational Lesson: roles that people usually play: The Leader, the Advisor, the Jokester, the Silent type, the Brute, the Confused, The hero or the Victim, the reluctant hero or the false hero, .. There are MANY names and titles for the styles in which people ROLEplay.

This thread shocks me.. but great to have bookmarked for the future.

Rogue. Not the support, arrow firing, range type I mean the quick witted, fast on his/her feet, sneak up behind you and stab you in the back of the head type. Like a light fast warrior who makes up for stength with speed and loves hand to hand combat.

That title made me cringe.

I'm normally a very charismatic warrior of sorts (I love going the brute force option, but I also love persuading everyone).
