Dump one skill at a time for sure. You only need to be good at one thing. Works better.

It's usually snipers or sneaky stuff.
Much as I hate to say it, this.

I either pick what will be most useful to me if it's a choice focused sort of game,
Try to be a mage
Find someone who's played it before and ask what I need.

Until you've played the game to the end you have no idea how you should spend them for sure.

Charisma and stamina...

Figure it out.

Actually I usually pick the melee class with all the armor, so str and stam and a little dex if the game requires it for certain weapons.
Eye Cee Wut Yew Did Thar.

OT: Intelligence for more skill points, endurance for more HP, Strength for more carry space/attk damage.

It depends on the game. If I've been playing it for a bit I'll usually have a sense of which abilities I use the most/which are the most effective in my play style, then focus on leveling those up.

Focus on two or three things at a time until you're completely unbalanced, then double back for all the fluff once you're an unstoppable juggernaut.

Baby, it's the only way to fly.

If a specific item/perk requires a certain amount in a skill, then I'll normally tailor my skill points to that.

Are you another fellow Mass Effect infiltrator?! If so, welcome aboard.

I try and make it real to life. Not that I'd be awesome with snipers but if I were to be in the military, what my preferences would be.

Yes, I am.

In fact, I added the sniper bit for the entire sake of that game.

I dump them in the most useful thing I find, as long as it is physical based.

Mages, Biotics, peh, fuck them! XD

Warriors all the way baby!

1) Max out persuasion/speech options
2) Max out non-combat skills needed to access xp or money i.e. lockpicking
3) Max out passive combat skills
4) Max out one or two easy to use, non-complicated combat skills
5) Splash out the rest on whatever looks fun and pretty.

Hoard them until I know what matters and what need beefing up then pour them in. Other than that I may try to level everything equally.
