How does Deus Ex Human Revolution compare to Alpha Protocol?

I've almost finished playing a first game of alpha protocol, specialising in hand to hand combat, wearing the heaviest armor and maxing out martial arts, toughness and technical aptitude. My general approach is to sneak around until I get close to one or more terrorists/agents, then charge at them and take them down with martial arts while taking their gunshots. And in contrast, each time I defeat a 'boss', I put a bullet in their head.

I've found it quite amusing and the sneak/lockpick/hacking systems to be pretty sweet, but also I enjoyed being able to take the hits. And the conversational options have been good as well. So, if you've played Deus Ex HR yet, how does it and the first Deus Ex compare to Alpha Protocol, out of interest?

I'm only a couple hours into Deus Ex, so I'm no an expert, but so far I'd say; similar enough that if you like Alpha Protocol you'll like Deus Ex:HR.

From what I've seen there's not quite as much character development choice in Deus Ex:HR as AP, you can't decide to specialise in melee and beat every enemy to death. But you can pick your preferred gun and spend money upgrading it.

Also the augments aren't as over-powered as the skills in AP. Cloaking only lasts 7 seconds, unlike AP where I could get through a whole level cloaked.

I haven´t played Alpha Protocol, but I´ve been playing Deus Ex: Human revolution for a while now and there are two pretty big differences to what you described:

1) You can´t really take hits. Sure, you can upgrade damage resistance and you can "overheal" using certain items, but you´ll still need to rely on cover if you decide to start a firefight.

2) There is no melee combat except for take-downs, which use up energy, so there´s a limit to how many you can perform before you have to wait or use an item. I didn´t try it, but I doubt that´s a viable tactic if you need to take on large amounts of enemies.

Stealth and hacking work pretty well, with hacking doubling as lock-picking.
