How easy do you make friends on forums?

I can make friends more easily online than I can in real life, since I am 100% Antisocial in real life yet on the interwebz I am the complete opposite. You could say how I am on the internet is how I would be IRL had I had social skills and conversational skills, or even wanted to make friends.

I have a few friends on some other sites, but here? FOREVER ALONE

I probably make more enemies than I make friends. Makes sense really, I act more like a dick on the internet because most of my flaws aren't visible over it.

On small local forums (Aka IMDB specific boards / small gaming sites) I usually make friends pretty fast with a small group of 20-30 people.

However on the Escapist its a tad diffrent. I guess because these forums just have a lot more members.

I befriend people quite easily but I don't usally add them instantly. People I hang around with a lot naturally tend to be awesome. XD

It's quite difficult for me to make friends on forums/xbox live and I'm not entirely sure why. I don't do small talk very well and I'm not the most talkative of people in the first place. Sure I'll wade in and post my opinions on a topic similar to what I'm doing now but one on one interactions? Meh.

Strangely I used to be really good at making friends on chatrooms and WoW but I think that has something to do with a smaller user base. "On WoW?!" I hear you say? Well yes, get involved with a guild and you'll usually be online the same time as a few others which means you'll chat just to pass the time, bonds develop. The same as chatrooms, I used to be a regular on a room that had a core of regulars about 20 strong and as far as internet buddies can go we were all pretty tight. Like some strange online family.

That was then though. Now, I just don't have the time or the desire to get closer to people than "oh I recognise that Avatar"

Having an instant connection with people doesn't happen all that often, considering how many people I'm 'friends' with (here, at my previous job/town, etc).

I can tell whether or not someone will be a genuine friend within a very short amount of time. But even then, some of those more genuine friends may not last indefinitely, and as time goes on I may notice things that don't work well between us, which will ultimately stop us from ever reaching a true 'best friend' level. I've only had four of those in my life, all of which are in the past. I have a small handful of very close friends, and a few more casual friends, while the rest are mainly just people I will share polite small-talk from time to time or a good laugh about something we have in common.

On other forums I have found friends sometimes.

It's an administrative job in an office, I'll be like a temp at first. Hopefully will work for a career in admin.

Not at all. I'm known more or less as a cynical jackass who's not afraid to call it as he sees it. I'm a realist first and an optimist second, which I've noticed a lot of people don't agree with (in short, I acknowledge that a good situation won't always stay good, and a bad situation could always have been worse).

Add to that I'm introverted almost to a fault. Given my opinion of the general population, talking to others and trying to "make nice" often comes off as a waste of time (seriously, how hard is it to give thanks for someone holding a door for you? I certainly didn't have to do that). Which is probably why I value what few friends I do have so much; here I was minding my own business when someone felt inclined to talk to me of all people. Long story short, I can certainly be a cool guy to hang out with, but don't expect to see me walking around with open arms.

Pretty easily I suppose. Not hard to talk to people when there not directly in front of you.

This is certainly less true for me here simply because I don't attempt to actually restrain my opinions that might tick someone off, or try to stay neutral on points. Though, that is one of the reasons this is one of my favorite forums. That and that the people are generally pretty awesome

If were talking games I was pretty infamous on my wow server for the length that I played. Met a lot of awesome people on that game, but after 3 years I needed a break.
