Ok, first of all I apologise for making another Skyrim thread, but, I used the search bar and couldn't find any particuarly on creating mods.

So, since I am going to get Skyrim, I was just wondering how easy it is to write and create mods for it. I have no previous modding or coding experience, but plenty of time to learn (Yay unemployment!)

So I was just wondering how technical and complicated the process is, what it exactly involves, and has anyone got any tips/tutorials for a beginner?

Hopefully not too hard. I refuse to touch the game until someone mods the spiders out.

I have a friend who would totally get this. He hates spiders.

Fairly easy to do the basic stuff if the last games are to go by.

But the more complicated stuff needs some practice!

I HATE spiders. Absolutely hate them. Very, very severe arachnophobia. And after Dragon Age 2's nonsense with dropping spiders right on top of my head, I decided that I'm sick of "practically every RPG" having them. I can't even watch the screen when they're on it. In Dragon Age, I just had to look away and hope my party didn't die while they fought them until I got a mod to turn them into darkspawn instead.

Wow, that is the most severe case of arachnaphobia I have ever heard of o.o
Sucks to have it that bad. Though I suppose it's as easy as replacing the skins with another skin.

I do wonder, if a spider has 4 legs and 2 eyes, does that make it less creepy for you? (Purely out of interest.)

I'm guessing that modding veterans of Fallout 3/New Vegas/Oblivion will already be fairly familiar with the Skyrim toolset, and will be able to yet again make both awesome and crazy mods. Here's to PC gaming!

I believe you can find a pretty big turtorial on the site where you can download the Oblivion Mod Kit, so I believe it will work in similar fashion with Skyrim. Sorry for being little to no help on the subject.

There's a small group of people on TESNexus that are already in position to remove spiders. Apparently, arachnophobia is an issue for them, too. :p

Oops, wrong link.

Things like creating new dungeons, editing item stats, placing new enemy spawns are all easy things to achieve.

Creating new quests and conversations is when it gets tricky.

Creating new models for weapons or items and editing animations will require extra software and knowledge.

If I can count the eyes, it's too freaking big. Not sure on the legs, but I'm going to go with no. Trying to imagine one with fewer legs still makes me shiver.
