With the subject of the article: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.383936-Harry-Potter-Fan-Explains-Wizard-Genetics

It comes to my mind, how far someone can take anything he/she likes.
Personally and i say again -personally- i believe that is great to know everything about a say series like, for example Game of Thrones. The places, the people, the houses, the legends, etc etc. Having all the figurines, or even cosplay, or maybe build a mod in Skyrim of GoT.
But i think is taking too far to analyse scientifically say, why some Targaryen genetically have the ability of being untouched by fire and others don´t.

I think that if u have the skill to analyse that, maybe that time would be better put into something that would actually be helpful and not some sort of theoretical curiosity.

What are your thoughts?

I think when it starts getting into your personal life, like when you decide to stay alone in your room with your obsession instead of go to a family member's funeral.

If it's just you and it doesn't really effect anyone else, I think you're OK.

That it sounds really complicated, but the original author of the theory has made it incredibly convoluted to please the internet. This is seriously high school science shit - every once in a while there is an individual in a species that has a beneficial mutation in a gene that gives them a new characteristic. So basically, it can be summarised by:

1. Mutation in DNA
2. New Gene
3. ???
4. Magic

If this was meant to improve public understanding of science or pass the time, then cool, otherwise it's complete trash that anyone with an interest in science could write with enough time and research.

Really? It's just a past time. You have hobbies and free time you waste on seemingly stupid stuff, too (evidence - you are on this forum), so how is that any different. Besides:

this. It's a pretty basic stuff, OP. Which somebody turned into a six page thing. I bet it's just long for the sake of length, rather than the need for it. And it doesn't require any great skill or anything. Or a lot of time, for that matter - the total length for writing such a piece would be a day, maybe two and I don't mean allnighters, just something you can do over the weekend. What you said sounds like "well, if you can play Monopoly, why don't you open your own business?".
