I remember being really confused around the 2004 election (I was in 7th grade and hadn't yet become quite as cynical about U.S. politics and the media yet) because they kept labeling Kerry a "flip-flopper" for changing his mind when he received new information, because if you had seen evidence proving you wrong, it would be pretty stupid to cling to your previous positions, right?
