Give AC2 a shot, it is considerably better than the first one. If you don't like AC2 then there's no point in trying Brotherhood or Revelations.

If you haven't picked the series up ye, now is a great time to do so, hot on the heels of Assassin's Creed 3.
A thing can't be hot on the heels of something that's released afterwards. That's all kinds of wrong.

The freerunning/climbing works well but can be hair pullingly frustrating if you rush

I found ZP review of Assassin's creed 2 to be spot on. The easiness kinda ruined it for me.

Its the only one out of the entire series I played.

I admit the first installation in the series is very boring and repetitive. But the rest of the games in the series makes up for it by for, (in my opinion). My favorite instalation in the series so far is AC 2 mostly for the music.
Hope this helps.:)

I thought they rolled it back - I played AC2 / Brotherhood on PC without any issues, but it did make me sign up for a uPlay account :S

Well you see, I have never heard of Armored Core before so me assuming that AC was short for Assassin's Creed (yes assuming is never the smart thing to do and this proves it)

I will check out Armored Core later on.
Last Raven or Nexus are the two to look at, as those are the last two i played. and Nexus has two disks, which is two separate games in practice.

you play as a 'Raven', their word for 'giant robot piloting mercenary', and i don't mean mercenary in the bright and happy, 'just cause' way, i mean it in the very literal 'working for whom ever pays you the most' way, it's not uncommon to work for a big corporation to take out terrorists one mission, then turn around and work for the guy you just blew up. its a game where mission success is about knowing the missions and prepping your AC (they call them that in game) accordingly.

I have the first Assassin Creed game and I can not really find the fun in the game and I was just curious what other fans of the series enjoyed that would make replaying it equally fun for me.
I thought number 1 was like playing a brick, but I played AC2 every day for months. More variety. I think its the best one in the series. I recommend you borrow it from a friend or rent it if you can sometime.

It's quite simple, in order to enjoy AssCreed you need to like freerunning(dicking around rooftops) and immersing yourself in a certain time period. The actual gameplay itself(besides the parkour'ing which I find enjoyable even after 4 games) isn't terrific, you mainly collect stuff(which ties into exploration), build up the respective city(this is from AC2 onwards) and the assassinations missions are pretty damn easy, as is normal combat.

AC1 put a lot of people off the series because the gameplay is mindnumbingly repetitive, the main character is a bit of a dick(but he gets somewhat better towards the end) to say the least but fortunately the story is framed quite well and Al Mualim is a terrific character.

If you play AC2, be sure to play both Brotherhood and Revelations to end Ezio's story. While these two are clearly more add-ons than actual games, I have to say that, overall, I quite enjoyed them.

AC; Dull.
ACII; Awesome!
AC: Brotherhood; Meh. More of the same. Smaller map.
AC: Revelations; Meh. More of the same. Even smaller map than before.

The 1st one isn't very good. AC2 and it's sub-sequels are MUCH better than AC1.

The second and third AC titles were much better than the first one, but the original AC did seem to be more serious, and if it wasn't so damn repetitive, would have been a great game, in story and gameplay.

The second and AC: Brotherhood were both kind of less serious, but there's a lot more variation, and the gameplay is definitely improved. Lots of cool weapons to use.

If you really disliked the original, it's unlikely that you'll like the sequels, but if you saw the potential for something good in the original, I'd advise trying AC2.

I really admired the attention to detail the first game exhibited, but I can plainly see why anyone would have trouble enjoying it, since the game itself is sooo god damm repetitive.

That's why I highly recommend that you play Assassin's Creed II as soon as possible, since it pretty much solves every issue the first game has. It's an awesome game, and I've heard even better things about it's sequels (Brotherhood and Revelations, from my friends.

Well I played the first AC on ps3 and that is probably what I will use to play the others, assuming that I enjoy AC2, and I thought the concept of AC1 was really well done but the combat seemed...lacking or maybe I just really was terribad at it.

Assassins Creed and Assassins Creed 2 were great imo, Brotherhood eh not so good... and I only played Revelations to find out the story. So Now with AC 3 on the way, I'll be hard pressed to enjoy I suspect.

I think I am about to buck the trend but I don't find any of the games fun, I find them very entertaining and enjoyable but not fun.

I thought assassins creed series was going to be a medieval splinter cell/thief kind of game, sneaking through shadows and stalking guards ... turns out you are about as subtle as Rambo, the combat is a joke and the only stealth gameplay comes from crowds, which is a joke 'cos nobody can hide in a group of 4 people, especially with Ezio's dress sense.

I say the combat is a joke 'cos all you have to do is block, counter the first attack (which usually kills), aim at another guy, hit attack to execute him, aim at another guy, hit attack to execute him etc etc until no guards remain.

Being given the option to chain execute entire legions of bad guys makes it WAY too easy, not to mention giving you nades, throwing knives, a crossbow and a gun!

I have liked all of them so far, and that includes Revalations. If your playing the games for the story as well as the gameplay then Rev is kinda needed as it ends a story arc, but it doesnt really add anything new gameplay wise. I personally think its great that Ubisoft have the idea of releasing the games yearly, they dont need to work on any earth moving new games mechanics so a year seems fair and keeps the intrest up in the series.

Although asking an opinion of a game on the escapist is risky because you will allways get people who either passionately love or hate a game.

If you play AC1 and enjoy it then you will most likely enjoy the rest of them.

Well if it turns out I do not like AC2 then I can always go back to 1 and keep trying to get better at it.

I understand what you're saying about AC1. I enjoyed the story and the whole being an Assassin part (something which I had never really experienced in a game before) but I gave up on it for a few months right around Memory Block 4 when it started repeating itself, go here, listen, pickpocket, beat up, rinse, repeat. I got confused becuause I had just done EXACTLY the same thing like five minutes ago.

Play Brotherhood, it has the best mechanics/game experience out of the series.

Revelations is great too, but mainly for the story. The mechanics (ie the Hookblade; it's a blade, with a hook!) is let down by the stupid bomb making. The only time I ever used them was when the game told me to and even then I only think that was in the tutorial.

Also, the tower defence game, the only time I saw that was in the tutorial, how do you trigger that again? I would've liked to seen that more.
