So it's getting close to a year since Microsoft bought Mojang for a whopping 2.5 billion, and I realized I haven't heard anything about the game for ages.

Looking at the version history it seems to me that there hasn't been a real update to the game since before the acquisition, only a couple of bug fixes.

So what's going on? Is Microsoft actually doing anything with Minecraft, or did they just buy the game so they could sit on it?

They've commissioned an episodic adventure game from Telltale Games called Minecraft: Story Mode.

There is a new content patch in the works right now. Adding duel wielding, shields, as well as a couple other things of note. I dont play the game much, but I cant honestly say whether the Microsoft acquisition of the company has affected development of the game at all.

I kind of think Microsoft over-paid for the company.

Pretty much everyone who wants Minecraft has Minecraft, so very few new game sales. Are DLC sales really going to recoup that level of investment? The same with merchandise, are they really going to get billions worth of sales?

I really don't see how they are going to recoup their money.

Oh man, I can't stop cringing. This so dumb, it's like the antithesis of the entire game.

It hasn't, at least as far as I can tell. The last update was like a year ago. The windows 10 app store apparently has a special version, but from what I've heard it's basically just regular minecraft modified to be more touch friendly.

There is a new update recently that has added a cool down between attacks with weapons, added dual wield and a couple of other things. I think they are trying to add another layer onto the combat so it isn't just charge in swinging.

Good question. Microsoft seems to have beem quite hands-off so far, which has to be the ideal situation.

actualy, the windows10 minecraft is a direct port (pretymuch) of minecraft pocket.
and if you think about it, while it may be fast (because it is not coded in java) it also means that its not realy moddable.
oh, sure, some of the dedicated modders may allready know how to code for the system that it uses, but its far more likely that most of them dont.

its kinda what i was saying when they took over....first comes the new model (which cant be modded) then comes the microtransactions, because there isnt a way to get your custom skin so easily, and there arent as many makers for texture packs....eventualy, they stop support for the old version and then bingo..windows only, no way to play it *your* way and its byebye....i guess it depends on if the launcher folks will eventualy patch out the need to contact the mojang servers to authenticate the old (by microsoft standards) outdated mincraft java version, so people can still play it once the old style server gets closed down lol....

and yes...i allways hope for the best, but plan for the worst.i wish i was more often dissapointed, too with that. nut ya know...greed+humans *sigh*
