How is The Escapist seen by the rest of the Internet?

The forum users here as seen as "stuck-up pretentious pricks", and to give them credit, I can see why they think that.

Most of us here are middle-class, like to use correct punctuation and grammar, and have strong opinions on most things.

However, I come here for these things, because its nice to discuss issues with like-minded people who you can respectfully disagree with and still have a good time

Overall I think that there is a slight degree of contempt for us on the internet what with the reputation of the Escapist as being much more mature and 'elitist' (though admittedly the guys on Giant Bomb have a lot of nerve to accuse us of being elitist and then spend three pages worth of thread explaining why they are 'better' then us) and that can be seen as either a good thing or a bad thing. I myself, do have a problem with over the top elitist jerks who feel the urge to bully other people who they consider lesser beings but in truth I don't really see the Escapist doing that at great length.... although I did just rag on Giant Bomb....

Anyway, point is I think we may get a little negative press and plus our reputation of being a mature community does tend to attract the trolls because they know they'll stand out here a little more but I don't think we are completely reviled because if we were, users would not keep signing on every day.

To be honest I have never heard of The Escapist except for being that one place where Yahtzee lives. But then I got banned from the forum I usually go to and started posting here. I've found that people here don't appreciate my sick sense of humor like other forums do, which is fine and whatever. But honestly I've never heard anyone mention these forums in any other place on the internet. But that's just my take.

Oh, and 4chan doesn't "hate" you, in all probability, 95% have never heard from you.

There was a thread on Giant Bomb where everyone was calling us super elitist, too into games, and made fun of our moderation team for being way too harsh.

EDIT: Look at the next person.

In response I say everywhere else isn't into games enough!!! Elitist my ass! We need more stuff like us around!! Gamers to the core!!!!

A lot of those posts seem to be made in ignorance, as if they don't understand how it works here.

Wonder what the people who've been in our TF2 server think of us, and how different it is to the forum view. I doubt it's seen as elitist, but then again I'm bumbling about with an [ESC] tag on so wouldn't know.

I don't mind what other people think of the Escapist, I hate you all on occasional days.

I always like to think that we are like the snobs of the internet. The Escapist is like a Country Club.

If they've even heard about us in the first place.

To be honest, the Escapist is really one of only thread site that I've visited, so the above is really my only point of reference.

Ok...I've just read these threads about the escapist, and i'm like what the hell?... i'm new to the whole forum thing so it's a bit lost on me why exactly we're hated...my #1 question would be ...why are we elitist's? i mean it a site that we like with forums and games and videos...seriously you're going to dump on us for what now exactly...geez...

off topic...i love this site...i stopped using facebook last yr and this is sorta its replacement...also i'm a snooty little shite so i dont mind being an elitist...

Honestly, I don't find much of a problem here. Seems to me most haters have never really taken their time to actually explore the site, only having gone through Zero Punctuation, Unskippable and how Moderators work around here, so they avoid it........ seriously?

Meh, I suppose I can understand why some people may call us elitist. We at the very least try and encourage the use of proper grammer and spelling which is something not many forums attempt. We don't believe in simply shutting the opinions of our peers down, we give our reasons and attempt to make people understand why we think what we think. I think AWEXOME described us perfectly, we are the country club of Escapist.

I was going to ghost this page, but I might as well put my two cents in. They probably see us as elitists because we use satire- and use it correctly & effectively. It might also be because of grammar and ZP, but the people commenting on the other thread boards against us are either sheeple or users who got banned.

But I like the community here. No one takes anything seriously (and by no one, I mean me) and everyone's okay with it (the mods I haven't pissed off yet).

On the other hand I can't fairly generalize; this quote from the giant bomb thread made me lol a bit:
