How is this even possible?

I have located a hardware paradox.

My old PS3 suffered an odd glitch while playing Elder Scrolls Oblivion that made the characters head jiggle wildly while on a horse. At first I thought it might be the disk so I borrowed a friends (who has had no such trouble) and the error happened still, so naturally I assumed it was the ps3. Many formats and save/install erases later I can't fix the problem- so I figured it was rooted into my console.

Recently my ps3 died on me, and I had to dish out for a whole new one. Ps3 slim, nice and new, started playing it again... still have the glitch. How is this even possible?

It's the disc then. Incidentally, what an awesome glitch! Why would you want to get rid of it? At least it isn't killing your saves. Then again, it would get annoying after a while...

It's called data corruption. I had a similar problem with Mass Effect.

The only real cure is deleting all your Oblivion files and starting over.

I find the chances of both consoles having that problem INCREDIBLY unlikely.

maybe the system just doesn't like you?
but seriously, you've got me stumped.

Perhaps an overall glitch that all games shipped with? I have no idea about the other consoles, since I have never played Oblivion on the PS3 but that is the best explanation that I can muster that still makes sense.

Are people not even reading the first post?
Tried it with multiple disks, deleted all install and save data many times over.

Have you thought that it might be the disc?

This really is a non-question.
He borrowed another disk (with a k) genious

It's gotta be a problem with the saved file, or just a really random glitch that only happens to you

The only reason I can possibly think of is that the install data from my disk affected the other disk I borrowed, making it something of a...dominant gene? I have no idea, but it seems vaguely possible. I'll have to look into this.

Oh and on top of making the characters head shake from left to right, the horse does it too. In perfect sync.

I would suggest that it is written into the save file. Think of all the variables oblivion saves to the file--- every time you drop an item on the ground, its xyz position and rotation is saved to the file.

for everything.

corruption of such files is pretty common. put that big ol ps3 hard disk to use and save multiple copies-- if possible.

Once again, for people who didn't hear me the second time, saves have been wiped multiple times as well as install data and the entire formatting of the playstation console.

I don't know what you're comlaining about, that sounds pretty awesome.

But yeah, I don't know anything about the PS's inner workings, but if it has an equivalent to a computer's registry that might have been glitched and it corrupts any saves with the same glitch. Using a different disc will only load a glitched save.

And it's not a paradox. Please look up what a paradox means and replace that word for one that actually describes your predicament, (such as 'predicament'), or I'll release the Evil Ninja Teachers on you. I'm not joking here.

If it bothers you so much stop riding horses.

With all the information you have given us, that is the only answer I can give you.

Also, discs cannot be edited in anyway except by scratching after you buy them, there is no way the save could've altered the disc.

Who said the first thing about a save corrupting a disc? (It's disk by the way).
I don't think anyones mentioned that.

This really isn't a paradox [http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=define%3Aparadox&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=].
It could be a glitch with all copies of the game and you're just unlucky.

EDIT:

In this case it's disc, not disk. There is a difference.
"Disc" refers to optical media, such as the DVD your copy of Oblivion is on.
"Disk" refers to magnetic media, such as a hard drive or floppy disk(ette).
