I used to be nice to my pokemon, in the way that I'd go to a center when they fainted and gave them haircuts. But I've never cared if my pokemon was aesthetically appealing until Heart Gold and Soul Silver let me run around with whatever pokemon I had in the lead. I don't want this [http://pokefan2000.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/feraligatr2.jpg] or this [http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/ani157.gif] following me around later, with their ugliness, so I settled on this [http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff32/karl_daverick/meganium.png]

Actually, I would have chose Chikorita, anyway, since there is more than enough Water pokemon, and my Fire type is ALWAYS Flareon, but this really clinched it for me. Even then, thanks to my new "giving a shit about looks", I'm likely to use Ninetales as my fire.

Oh, and I'm actually using potions on my damn pokemon, rather than selling them and running to the nearest center to save money.

Did anyone else ever find themselves immersed in a game they really shouldn't be?

I won't comment on your problem since I never liked Pokemon, but OT, Oblivion.

Its got so many technical issues, the characters always collide with each other, there are only about 3 voices in the whole game and it has the most wonky ass physics ever.

So why the hell have I put in almost 3000 hours into it?

Because the leveling system, combined with the fact that enemies level WITH you...makes starting a new character a snap.

That, and mods, if you have the PC version.

That's just it, I've got the PS3 version and even without mods, I can't stop playing it.

Well, I have stopped playing it so I can play Final Fantasy 13 and I'll continue to not play it since God of War 3 comes out tomorrow and I'll be preocupied with that, but then I'll go back to Oblivion and play some more.

How about having a Magikarp follow you? That would be awesome.

Anyway, I have a tendency to really immerse myself in anything I play. So, as you, Pokémon is a real time sucker, along with pretty much anything with RPG elements.

If I can get better, I will max it out.

Thanks a lot, now I'm reinstalling it. I'm supposed to be reading microbiology here! Oh well. I'll probably give it up once I notice I suck at making good looking characters. Unless I find one on tesnexus...

Damnit!

Fallout 3, the most immersive game I've ever played. Some people said it was a piece of crap due to bad manual aiming and graphical glitches ect, I still loved it to bits

Yes, the entire John DeFoe series Yahtzee made.
Amusing and kinda scary at the same time.
If it were to be put onto something like a 360 or PS3, they woudln't be allowed in Australia.

Damn you Michael Atkinson.

OR...You could just hit "Random" until you get something that looks nice. That's what I do. Usually have one within a minute.

Unfortunately, in some games too much realism can lead to a lack of immersion. If I'm playing a sandbox action game like Mercenaries or Saints Row 2, I want action movie physics and a bullet proof protagonist. While realism had it's place, sometimes its fun to just pretend you are in your own action movie for a while without worrying about real life

So far, Pokemon is the single series that hasn't been sold and screwed, so I can say this. If the box says Pokemon on it and then it's followed by a color or ore, I will buy it, and I will love it.

Or if you're really lazy you could take the paper bag approach and wear a full-faced helmet (I recommend Dwarven or Daedric).

OT: I got really immersed in Postal 2, even though the whole game is a giant parody.

I found myself immersed (okay, I can't really think of a gaming example) in Solty Rei, a series about a robot child in a futuristic city, which featured giant robots and some really strange hair colours.
