It's a constant thing I've been seeing so many times these past few months. It's as if it took a sudden rise. I see it so many times when people see something as minor and not very note-worthy (To them, mind you) and we get posts topped off with "How is this news?" or a variation of a sort.

It is just me feeling like it's becoming near commonplace to hear this from our own users on the forum? It's getting rather frustrating. Just cause you, the user, don't find it news/note-worthy, it doesn't mean it isn't to anyone else. Pointing out that you don't feel it's news doesn't add much to the discussion at all. /mini rant

Thoughts?

Whenever I come across an unworthy piece of news I start humming this one song, which immediately makes it worthy.

It's because there are some people that absolutely HAVE to hear themselves talk (er....type?). They can't NOT have their say, even when they have nothing to say. Therefore, they complain that the topic does not matter. This allows them to hear themselves talk while letting everyone else know how cool and special that they are by not caring about what someone else may care about.

It's this

Sometimes it's a legitimate comment. Like that cereal commercial with a biracial couple, that got media attention because of the racist comments people left. Racist comments on YouTube aren't exactly newsworthy.

When people just post "This isn't news" or "how is this news?", it's Low Content and they get warned for it because they decided to go into an article that they knew the title of beforehand and complain without actually adding anything. Maybe it just feels nice to complain rather than doing anything productive.

If they say why they think it's not newsworthy then that's another matter, but they still chose to view the article.

I don't comment on posts to that effect because I can't be bothered but I certainly think it. Maybe content providers might be interested to know that particular "news" stories aren't all that popular with a certain percentage of their users or why they have low readerships on certain types of articles. Can't really fault people for encouraging places they frequent to refrain from publishing dull content.

Which is why I don't like it. A lot of times one or two short sentences are added, then "How is this news" or something among those lines is added. It's just a weak way to throw some words out there to ignore the low content thing, or as some people have said... Enjoy hearing themselves speak for no reason

I dunno, the Escapist often gets a bit over-excited at people with photoshop, or who draw Disney Princesses as things.

Well, some people haven't gotten the memo about what this site can and/or could be about when you really think about it... It may not seem like something worthy of a full news post, but as long as one person came out if it thinking either "I didn't know that" or "I can see the connection to X" or something like that, the news post in question is "more or less" worth it in the long run...

Plus, I thought if you don't have anything to discuss about the topic in question and/or wondering why something was posted as "news" in the first place, then there's no point wasting a single post "vocalizing" that fact to everyone... unless it was I that missed the memo after all... *le gasp*

Kind of like this?

Breathing on Anti-Counterfeit Drug Labels Reveal Hidden Images

Some won't care, some may be interested in the subject, and some may get a kick out of the bone-headed decision to use Marilyn Monroe - someone who DIED of a drug overdose - on an anti-tampering device used for, of all things, bottles of drugs.

Plus, I thought if you don't have anything to discuss about the topic in question and/or wondering why something was posted as "news" in the first place, then there's no point wasting a single post "vocalizing" that fact to everyone
Couldn't have said it better myself. It baffles me why those people feel the compulsion to curtly voice their displeasure of the mere mention of a topic that they don't care about. If they felt SO cheated out of the couple of seconds it took for them to click on the thread and scan its contents, then why on earth did they waste even MORE of their time making a stupid comment rather than moving on? As was mentioned above, it's not like many thread titles are so ambiguous as to completely mask their subject matter. One can also preview the first line of a thread by hovering their cursor over the title (unless they're using a touch device, that is).

Simply put, there's no shortage of hints as to WHAT you'll see when you open up a thread.

If you don't care, don't read. If you read and still don't care, don't comment about how much you don't care?

Honestly, it should be a warning worthy offense by now, its annoying as all else...

Now if we were to have an article about spoons...oh baby.

I think they just be ragin' because they realize they've given something that "isn't news" another view. :D

'Cause some things really aren't worth making an article for, and people like to complain.
