I'm American, do I need to go further? I am proud of my country, but we all know the American stereotype, fat, lazy, angry, dominant, rude, etc. but I am actully a skinny, lazy, laid back, caring, polite person.

I think the only non-American film I've seen that had an American stereotype was In Bruges, where an American couple was fat and obnoxious.

There was a little twist to this though:
They turned out to be Canadian. The main characters assumed they were American because they were fat and obnoxious.
They weren't fat(from what I can remember). They were just obnoxious. And loud, too.

Croatia and like all the Slavs we are viewed as backwards, genocidal, mafia type people that live in the mountains and eat raw meat.
But don't forget! "In heaven, the shooters are Croatian!"

Besides from making one game and the above already mentioned stereotypes, I don't think we've been displayed often. We maybe end up being mentioned only as a part of Yugoslavia (that doesn't exist for the last 20 years, but people somehow tend to forget that).

i'm from central valley of california, you know, that long strip that makes up like 60 percent of the state? anyways, representation of people from theredoesn' really happen, it's either san francisco surfer dudes, or los angeles gangsters that ever get featured in the media, oh, or if you watch right wing news, hippies and gays. there's so much more variety in california, every type of person in the world lives in my state, and consequently there is as much variety in personality as there is in color, but we get generalized in one of the 4 categories i listed above, AND NOTHING ELSE. But hey, i guess it's sort of a plus that george lucas is from my home town (or at the very least, filmed american grafiti there)

Sweden is full of sexually atractive blond chicks who speak with an German accent and alwys says "ja?" at the end of each sentence (altough we have the word "ja" which means yes and is pronounced almost as the begining of "ya'll"). Oh and it is snowing all the time here.
I've been to Sweden a couple of times, and I noticed the stereotype about the hot chicks to be very accurate. They're not all blondes though, granted.

I'm from Belgium. According to, I believe, Conan O'Brian, the only European country to never succesfully invade Belgium. This is true.

Then there's the thing about the great beer and chocolate. This is correct.

And there's the widespread belief that every other person is a pederast. This is also true.

Britain - Bad teeth (even though everyone I know has good teeth) posh accents (no) or common as muck accents (again, just no). Big houses with royal sized gardens (OK there are a few but not EVERY SQUARE METRE!) the Royal Family (69p in taxes a year? keep them) evil villans in movies (where did this come from?) and cups of tea (don't drink it.... yet).

Yeah this needs refining a bit. BTW someone once said to me that Britain and America during GWBs presidency was the father leading his mildly confused son away from the family at Christmas before anyone asks about who he got into a fight with at school this time while Canada, Australia and New Zealand chat with their aunt (I think he lost it at this point) about what presents they got her.

Then he was asked what was so important and if he would like to share with the rest of us.

Huh. Turns out they were not only really fat, but also not as obnoxious as I remembered. I guess I remembered the "SCREW YOU ************," and not the fact that they were provoked. Still, I guess it didn't take much to get the American guy to start throwing punches.
No, you're thinking of the Couple in the Restaurant that was complaining about Collin Farrel's smoking.

Not the fat family by the tower.

Iceland.... Is Iceland portrayed in any media as something? As far as I know the most we get is a slight mention, and nothing more.
I think the only Icelandic person people in general recognize is Björk, so a lot of people probably think you are all crazy.

Personally I like Iceland, despite never having been there.

What is this, we're also known for Sigur Ros. So, I guess Iceland is know for strange, and bad music. That's just great.

Norway, we usually have the stereotype of beeing passive and always working for world peace. However in recent years Israel have tried to accuse us tenfolds of times that we are an antisemite racist people since the number of norwegians now supporting the occupation of Gaza is a decreasing minority. Why do I mention this? Because it seems that many(specially americans, sorry but that's what the numbers say)belive them. So now we will have 2 sterotypes: Passive peaceloving hippies, and the 4th reich.
I like the stereotypes it seems the danes have of us, they think everyones freakin' rich because our beer's so expensive.
No we just think you must be frikking mental considering if you have the same drinking mentality as us (I actually thought Sweden had it worse). We have had the record for most alcohol consumed pr young citizen a year for several years now and most of us are damn proud about it, strangely enough :S

On topic - Denmark is apparently Europe's answer to Canada (According to South Park.. Don't know if that's a compliment but we take what we can..

People think this of britain

- Bad teeth
- Warm beer
- Bad food
- Arrogant or Overly Polite
- London

Things people NEVER REALISE ABOUT THE BRITISH

- Average teeth
- Binge drinking problems in urban areas
- Very tasty food with lots of gravy and well-cooked meat (we INVENTED meat and two veg, damnit)
- Invented a lot of things
- Wales (seriously, it's like they're culturally nonexistant beyond the Isles)

I'm from Canada. I can think of Rodney Mackay from Stargate:Atlantis, and the douche-bag from Knocked up (character, not the actor) being Canadian.
And Bob and Doug Mackenzie who were created as parodies of the Canadian stereotype because of Canadian broadcasters insistence on a percentage of "Canadian content" whatever the fuck that is.
