How long could you go without games?

I guess things change, so I wouldn't know today. But a while back, around 2000, I was sent abroad (New York) for a six months work assignment, so my consoles (N64 & PSX back then) stayed behind.

About a month into it I was really missing it. Going to arcades was too an expensive way to get my gaming fix, so I would drop by the Sony store and play on the demo PSXs they had.

Eventually, on one of my return trips (I'd get one about once a month) I picked my PSX to travel with me.

I went about 2 years without gaming, because (at the time) I felt it was beneath me... I've learned now that you're never too old to game. but yeah I CAN go without, I simply CHOOSE not to... wait... isn't that what addicts say?

I haven't seriously played a video game in ages...the last time I can remember playing a video game at all is Wii Sports Resort a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to go ahead and say "forever".

I've gone 3 months without gaming...give or take a few days.
So, I don't know if I could last longer.

I surprisingly haven't played games much at all lately. When I'm not working out/MMA training/job hunting, I spend a large chunk of my time organizing stuff on my computer (keeping records of stuff like how much money I spend, how much I eat, etc.) and looking at articles on news and interesting facts. So I suppose I could go for a few weeks if I wanted to without feeling like I really really want to start gaming.

young dude i haven't played a game in almost two months if not longer... just you wait till edumacation und vûrk starts taking up all your time..... pretty much only play when i am absolutely sure i have no other responsibilities, i compensate by playing games all day and all night when said rare opportunities present themselves

This is actually why I brought it up. I'm heading to college after summer so I was thinking that I wouldn't have time for games anymore.

I thought I wouldn't either but I'm going to high school and college and I've still been able to play games. Although, really, it depends on the classes and the professors. Some give larger workloads than others so you may still have some time here and there.

OT: I could probably go for a couple weeks without games. I'd probably crack and want to play a bit of Minecraft or a couple of songs in Frets on Fire.

I could probably go the rest of my life without them, I have friends, family, a boyfriend, my life is more important than anything game related. The last game I bought was modnation racers a couple weeks ago, I really don't feel like buying anymore after this. I'd be fine without them. I can do other things too like reading, drawing comics, anything.

To be honest, I don't really know.
I think if that even happen, it will be for some other reason, like "I don't have more free time to spend on this because I prefer to spend my free time with my family/girlfriend/wife/friends".

But even like this, I think I would still game. You see, I don't think that gaming is an addiction, but a healthy hobbie that, today, is a lot more social.

With all those people that I listed above, I can play with them. Of course, it's not every game.

And besides, if you really like game as an entertainment media than just a toy that you play with and will get bored someday, well... too bad for you. Unlike any other media, games can always evolve to something so different that they may even someday start to be called something else.

But that you guys already know.
I think the question here is... will you still game thinking about that as just a toy or as something that can show a story like no other media?

Things just aren't what they were when I was young, and it's all big business, loaded with hype, slathered with subscription fees and "micro" transactions, bristling with griefers and jackasses, lathered in cash grabs, glazed with rehashing, and deeply rooted in filler and padding.

For whatever reason, you have to give up video games. How long do you think you could last?

In all honesty, the only games I have been playing lately have been Portal 2(which I just beat) and Minecraft. so I think I could go for a year or two.

hmmm a year? ha no way...well mabye I guess though I would be buying more DVD's

I can go long amounts of time without games..however

for some weird reason the Idea of being away from my computer I find hard to deal with even if I dont have internet..like I'm obssessed that I MIGHT get bored, even though generally I may not use it for more than a couple of hours

anyway if I had to give up gaming I guess there would always be somthing to fill the void..like reading.I would definetly read more

My entire life. That would suck, granted, but video games are hardly the only things that interest me. I would manage.

You know, this reminds me of a way you can tell how much of a video game addict a person is. If the power goes off when they're playing and all you get is a groan and swear, no problem. If they break their controller and proclaim there is no God (if they weren't already atheists, I guess), then there is a problem. I'm sure there's plenty of people in the latter category, though I am certainly in the former.

I dunno honestly. Pretty long probably. Like 2 years ago I wasn't doing very well in school so I punished myself by only allowing myself to play games on the weekend.

I have been grounded for 6-7 months at a time so I think I could go a full year or so.
