How long did your PS3 live or has been alive?

Asking normal wear and tear questions: Anyone have a PS3 die yet? If you have a PS3 that did not, how long has it been alive? How many years?

I got a "Fat" release PS3 the first month they were out.

The blue ray laser died last year, but the rest of the system (including the DVD laser that plays DVDs, PS1 games, and PS2 games) works fine. I now use it as a glorified PS2.

I bought a new, slim model PS3 which is what I play my PS3 games on.

So just subtract the year the PS3 was released (2006) from 2012 and you get how many years it lasted (six years).

My PS3 lasted from about 6 months after launch to about 5 months ago. that includes living almost 3 years after being drowned in an apartment that was on fire.

Sucker was a taaaaaank.

Mine is going on 7 years and counting. It's one of the big models, the 80 gig. Interestingly, even though I've gamed on my ps3 more than any other consol or pc, my ps3 library is probably the smallest. I actually bought more wii games even though I only used that for about 2 years. Just goes to show how good games have become and how much the wii sucked

I got mine for Christmas 2006, 40gb model, the blu-ray laser stopped working last year, I got it replaced for an exorbitant fee. Other than that though, it still seems to work.

i bought mine about 3 months after launch, and since that was long before i had my own PC i made it go through quite a lot, and the old gal is still running fine, albeit nowhere near as much as she used to. don't want to overstress her since she's one of the models that can still run PS2 and PS1 disk games

I got mine shortly after launch, had it replaced once but that was an issue with backwards compatibility which it turned out could be fixed at home. Though it has barely been used in 3 years, xbox and PC used more

Bought mine over four years ago and it's still working like the day I bought it.
Got over 100 games that I have finished, and replayed probably over half of them. Can't say how much I play each day, but on average I'd guess a few hours. I quit buying new games constantly a few months ago, so lately it's been used less than normal. Use it for Netflix daily these days as well.

Bought one of the backwards compatible 60G first week they came out. Had probably a couple thousand hours played on it when it finally stopped working about three years ago (more from user abuse from kiddies than wear and tear.) Bought a replacement the next day and it has been running smoothly since.

Games played? Lots.
Games completed? Couple.

Lifespan of fatboy PS3 from wear and tear? Not sure because it hasn't officially been reached yet. YLoD not nearly as common as RRoD thankfully. Guestimation from hardware involved... probably around 15 to 20 years. Course the big issue is whether you'll still wish to play out-dated tech by then. Not everyone's into old-school.

I got a ps3 a couple months after launch and it worked perfectly fine without any problems until a year or so ago when somebody dropped it.

I got it in 2010 so I've had it for 3 years now. I bought it second hand though so I don't know how old it is, Its a 120gb slim if that helps.

Lasted I think 3 years, I have finished quite a few games on it Killzone 2 and 3, Uncharted 1 and 2, God of War 1, 2 and 3, Brutal Legend, I unlocked everything so Mortal Kombat. A lot I haven't finished, usually time dedicated to my primary gaming system the PC, sometimes due top awful games, for example Red Dead Redemption and Demon's Souls, never finished Bayonetta, but it was just ok not terrible.

As a side note, the PS3 is an electronic device, no one can tell you how long it will last.

I've had mine since the European launch, so March 2007. Unfortunately, it YLOD'd in December 2012. It's been in the oven twice since then, and it's just died for a third time. Seriously debating whether to get another or just wait until the PS4 comes out.

I can't tell you much about useage though, it was always second to my Xbox (I prefer the box controller). Very annoying that it's now broken, I have several blu-rays I can't watch now.

How many years? How many hours did you play? How many games did you finish?

Mine lasted 11 months from retail and had a disc drive error that was repaired fairly quick,, tis an 80GB phat.

That was in 2008 and since then I've not really had an issue with it apart from the rubber seal around the disc slot is a touch loose and gets in the way of ejecetd discs at times. I've played thousands of hours on the thing and no real problems outside of the odd crash, I've finished.... a lot of games, I couldn't count but trust me it's a lot.

Personally I'd recommend you buy a 12GB super slim and slap your own HDD in it, it's probably the cheapest solution and that way you get a years warranty.

I've had my 60gb original PS3 since about 2007 and its still going strong today. Which handy as I still have many ps2 games that I wouldn't be able to play if it had broke and I had to get a newer model.

I've had 4 PS3s.
First two lasted a few months after acquisition but were replaced by Sony. The 3rd one died half a year later and was not replaced by Sony but I received a new one from a well-to-do friend who got two of them for his birthday.
I've had that one since then.

As for timeframe I had my first one a few days after release, second a few months after that, third a few months after that. Fourth one I got half a year after that.
4th I've had since then but it is currently on its last legs.

I just had bad luck with Sony this generation -_-

Also the models went 60GB fat, 60 fat, 80 fat, 80 fat.

I've still got my fat 1st gen 40GB model. Before the price drop, here in Australia a paid a hefty $999 for it with Ass Creed, NFS Pro Street and Resistance and a HDMI cable.

This model hasn't faulted on me yet, but since writing that I feel I have cursed it...

I have replaced the hard drive on it, but apart from that it's still stock as off the shelf.

It get's used as both my primary gaming device and bluray/dvd player.

One of the reasons I wouldn't think twice about a PS4, just because this one has been flawless for me, although I would wait for a price drop this time.
