I'm looking to try to reconnect with an old friend and I was just curious as to when to much time has passed to try to get in touch with an old high school friend?

Well, it really depends on the circumstances:
How close is said friend?
How long has it been?

If it's post-20 year reunion, it's probably too late (IMO, anyway)

We were close in high school, could talk about anything, and although we never really hung out outside of school she almost always chose to hang out with me rather than her more "conventional" friends during school or swim events

It's been a little under 5 years

Go for it. The worst she can do is.. actually, I don't see the downside at all.

Good Luck!

This.

Just make contact and see how it goes. I have friends I only see once every 5 years and we go right back to how we were years ago. And there are people I was close with 'only' two years ago and we discover we have nothing to talk about anymore...

"Friend" or "some girl I had a crush on but never got the courage to ask out"? Friend, it's never TOO* long. Nothing people like more than to find out that people remember them.

Creeping on some girl like movie "something about mary" will probably led to dissappointment and accussations of stalking. Tread carefully

Good luck

(*just a small grammar point, when saying too long, too much, too few, it's the double-O kind of too)

Yeah I was debating about this but it was late, and guess I got it wrong, sorry.

EDIT: hit post to early sorry
Also thanks for all the advice, the only problem now is that she has no internet foot print what so ever, so I'm going to have to go through one of her friends to find her, which might come across as creepy.

11 inches. It hurts too much at that point.

More seriously though. I'd say about 5 years if they were just friends. Really the closer they were the more time you can be apart and still click.
Wow it took me 5 minutes to get then first part of you post. And that exactly what it's been 5 years although how close we were might be up for debate

Never. IMHO however what matter's is hers. So ask her anyway and if she doesn't want to them no biggie to you and if she does meet up with her and see if you can still get along. Really it's throwing the dice here as people both change and stay the same so whatever. Still if all that happens if that the two of you act like gossipy hens and discuss who got fat and who married who, I would say it would be worthwhile. But I am nosy.

Nothing is never too late.

And how long is long? I'd say as soon as it gets longer than 300 kilometres it's long.

let's see if I can respond to all of these

Yes I had a crush on her, but we were also very good friends, however I chose to never ask her out, High School relationships rarely last and when going to college to be tied down like that tends to create resentment. Also I want to get in touch with her for the friendship, not for romance of any kind.

What do you mean by up for debate?
I mean that it depends on how you interpret our interactions. For example
We never hung out outside of school or swim, but given the chance in school or swim we were almost always together, In classes we would always sit next to each other even if she had more conventional friends in the class. After practices we would spend hours in the hot tube talking.
She enjoyed picking on me for my lack of work ethic in school and in swim
After our schools graduation they sent everyone on a 3 hour cruise of Boston Harbor (2 hours away from my school) for the entire cruise, instead of staying with her friends below deck were there was music drinks and dancing, she chose to play cards with me and two other kids on the deck.

So I guess it depends on whether that makes us friends or just someone we used to alleviate boredom

How can you damn something so clearly superior?
It would be something along the lines of 240 miles plus a little?
