The only thing close to outrage I had was when he let Cersei go in the courtyard before then when she admitted he was right and was going to fuck him over if he let her and her children go.

Can anyone tell me what the music in this is from? I know I've heard it, and I want to tie it some slo mo dramatic scene in an action movie but I just can't think of it.
EDIT: Just remembered, Dead Island Trailer

I think the outrage is stupid but also the mark of a great story, people were so invested in Ned that his death was a shock and really got to people.

I was fine with it. I don't like any of the Starks except Arya and Sansa. I especially didn't like Ned, he was an idiot. Like you said, he dug his own grave.

I was also expecting it to happen, since at the beginning of the show/book when they found a direwolf litter, the parent has been killed by a stag. With the series's reputation for killing off main characters (and the house symbols), I didn't think it could mean anything else.
Somebody who LIKES Sansa but DISLIKES Ned ... I cannot even comprehend this.

I should of expected it because, you know, it's Sean Bean and all but that really caught me by surprise.

I haven't read the books at all and I really liked his character in the TV series, but I guess honest and honorable people don't last in this particular universe. I got minor spoiled about another character that might kick the bucket in Season 3 but I won't go through with the disappointment like I did when that happened to Ned.

Except Troy, somehow he gets through that with barely a scratch.
Well in fairness Odysseus life starts sucking the moment he leaves troy.. like sucking hardcore
To be fair; he spends a significant part of Homer's Odyssey (we're talking years) alone on a Greek island boning a nymph. Sometimes Beanie makes out well enough.

OT: Eddard's end was awesome, I was much more upset about Syrio. A shame to see him fall with so many asses left unkicked.

Why not? We have the same opinion, I like Sans and dislike Ned.

Syrio's fate is still unknown. We never actually see him die, so who knows?

Hmmm....5 books and he died 3/4s of the way in the first book? Meh

I was more upset when Renly and Drogo died, tbh.

But killing off main characters keeps things interesting, which is why series like "A Song of Fire & Ice" and "The Walking Dead" are wonderful reads.

He was a fool, and quite frankly, his death hammers home the point "You win or you die", which I'm guessing is foreshadowing Robert Stark's military incursion.

Probably because Sansa sits around in episode going "I'm sad because I'm too stupid to do anything". I seriously hope she gets the axe because at this point her existence is completely irrelevant, and I fail to see how in the future she will be relevant.
She does annoy me, because while some very interesting stuff happens in her circle in the books, she never is an active participant, like a lot of the other characters, but basically a spectator.

i hadnt read the books, so naturally i was surprised... but my jaw dropped. i have NEVER seen the lead character of a show killed off in the first season.

i knew beforehand that Sean Bean has a tendency to die in his works, but he was the lead. since seeing that, nothing on the show will have the same effect on me. i completely understand now that nobody is safe, and they might kill off another one of my favorite characters at any given moment. hell, the ending to the latest episode was surprising, yet not surprising at the same time.

not sure about anyone else, but im really glad im watching the show without having read the books beforehand.

True, it could be argued and I'd like to believe it. But we do see ser Meryn after their encounter and it's well known that the First Sword of Braavos does not run.

The only thing that outraged me about Ned Stark was that:

the only person left following his death who knows the truth of Jon Snow's parentage has yet to make an appearance in the series. I NEED TO KNOW.

I loved it. Granted, I read the books first, so I knew exactly what was coming, so in the show I didn't really even feel much about it, other than vicariously enjoying the surprise of all my friends. In the book, it was a pretty sad moment, because it made you feel for Ned a lot more than the show did, imo. I was still pleased and impressed with it though. It meant that the characters wouldn't be coddled, as they are in so much other fantasy, and I love that. I can't wait for people's reactions to this season. :D

Pretty much this. Oh, and having read the books as well, I could safely expect Ned to die. It didn't cut back on the emotional charge, though, and I still was outraged, at least in a certain sense. I'm really looking forward to Joff getting kicked out of the playing field.

Props to Jack Gleeson for playing a murderous sociopath so well, I guess. I hear that actors have to come to live with the fact that some fans aren't going to be able to discern between the character and themselves, which can lead to some pretty odd instances of complete strangers flipping the bird at you...
Gleeson has even said had some "fans" want to pick a fight with him. Fandoms... fandoms are just odd sometimes, in a sad kinda way.. :(

OT: Ned Stark was an utter moron, his honor got him killed. I know a fair amount of people considered him somewhat sexist too. I mean that was parlance of the time, true, but his honor kept him from taking Cersei seriously even when other more competent characters warned him.

But I will say this, if you couldn't handle Ned Stark biting it, stop reading or watching RIGHT NOW. There is a certain event coming up that will turn your stomach and scar your mind. Its one of the bloodiest nastiest things ever put to paper.

Not really, I had been on the internet before I read it or saw it on the show, so it wasn't some great shocker. Though, when Robert died I was slightly surprised. My biggest shockers were:

A: When Shae turned out to be just another whore, and Tyrion killed both her and his own father.
B: When the Viper of Dorne was killed.
C: When Jaime actually turned out to be a sympathetic character.

If my favorite character (Cersei) is still alive and kicking, all is right with the world.

If she died...

RAGE RAGE RAGE... sudden realization I have never read any of the books or watched any of the episodes and only like the character because she the closest thing the world will ever get to a competent real-life Azula.
Read the books. You will realize who she is: a fucking monster. Narcissistic, manipulative and in no way the sort of person who should be given power. She is an absolutely wretched human being and I eagerly await the moment when she dies.
Hell I've just watched the series and I realize that. The thing is, she felt very much likeable through the first half of season one and then the mask started to break and you saw her for what she was.

Event B seriously shocked and saddened me in the books as well. It felt like such a waste in every sense of the word, even more than any other event from the books.
