how many players does dead island 'need'

so i'm very intersted in buying dead island and from many of the reviews ive seen it's only really a great game if played multiplayer much like borderlands but im not sure how many players you need to have a great experience so im asking just how many would create that

side note: i only have one friend i could play a large number of hours within a shortish period of time

I'm having a great time playing solo so far. I'm not very far into it (well, I'm level 10, but I have only been doing side quests, only 8% on the main storyline), so I assume it'll get harder, but I don't find it that difficult. I'd say it'd be more fun playing with friends though, which is why a friend of mine is coming down at 6 am tomorrow to watch rugby then play Dead Island split-screen.

it gets harder...trust me (lvl 24 right now in the slums)

OT:while more than one player is great iv enjoyed single player as well, im in the city right now and iv had loads of fun with my modded weapons just going aroung and killing zombies and kinda sort of "free running" climben up latter, jumping from building to building, figuring out ways to get bpast them,seting up make shift traps, etc,etc...

it's pretty hard solo, but, it's not playable, having a buddy makes the game amazing.
