How may games do you own, due to Let's Players/Etc?

How many games do you own from Streamers/Youtubers/Etc?

So, because of the thread about Stadia's guy talking about people paying the devs to play their games, which is just silly.

Also I remember doing a poll like this back on 1.0 of this site, and my library has expanded since.

So I have 362 games in my Steam library, and well over half, if not 2/3rds of those are games I picked up after watching someone play them, and liking what I saw.

So how many games do you own, that you can say you picked up because you watched some streamer or whatnot, play the game, give a review, show off the mechanics, etc, and thought "Yeah, I like that game, I'll pick it up" ?

Edit:

Ok for fuck's sake, since apparently I actually DO have to spell it out for you overly literal and pedantic people, despite me clearly using verbage to indicate I mean any and all forms of online gaming viewing, let's try it this way. Like seriously does the internet not know what etc is supposed to mean or something?

Have you bought game, when watching person, online, IN ANY FUCKING CAPACITY NOT JUST STREAMING, play said game, and thought you liked it based on what you saw? This can be streamers on twitch, silent let's plays on YT, commentary LP's on YT, a dev diary, whatever the fuck format. If I haven't spelled it out for you in this description, but there is another type that did influence you, don't type "Well no because I dont X, but I totally Y, and they influenced me buying something. " ASSUME I'M ALSO TALKING ABOUT Y!!!

Not many. Off the top of my head: the only ones I can think of are No More Heroes (Chip and Ironicus), Shadows of the Damned (Seraphim17, Two Best Friends, Supergreatfriend), Evil Within 1 (Two Best Friends, Seraphim17), and Double Dragon Neon (Max_Dood). Most other games I got due to me already being invested or interested from the get go.

EDIT: Adding a recent entry. Sayonara Wild Hearts. Thanks to looking at Woolie's 1 hour video from last year.

Kung-fu Jesus's God Hand play through. Funny enough, I ended up getting that game for free from a friend in college.

I don't know the numbers, but there are a few youtubers (Northernlion, Splattercat, Rhapsody) I watch who basically exclusively play indie games, and I've picked up a few because it gave me a good idea if I'd enjoy the game.

Hell if I know or can remember. I barely watch YouTube compared to most people.

I know I've bought a lot of indie games based on recommends from youtubers/podcasters that I never would have heard of otherwise. Some of those games are completely sold by word of mouth because they don't have advertising budgets and are therefore only helped by streamers/letsplayers.

Minecraft, Subnautica, 7 Days to Die, FTL, Kerbal Space Program, Space Engineers, Total War II: Warhammer, and Warframe. All games I became aware of and bought due to having seen someone else play them on YouTube.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I'm not sure, the only one that really comes to mind was watching Destiny play PUBG during some of his debates and getting it because it looked fun.

Offhand, two: Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Subnautica. Amnesia I've yet to finish, but Subnautica ended up being very much my speed.

What i regularly do is watching a gameplay stream after a game caught my interest on another way. Just go get more information about how it is actually played and whether i might like it. There is a surprising number of games that have only very barebones official sites only teasing stuff.

Games i bought after coming into contact with them over streams first ? Might have happened one or two times but i generally don't watch streams of games i have no interest in. Maybe in some compilation where i thought "wait, where is this from ? looks nice".

Games I had no prior interest in? Very few. Mostly I am already looking into a game, and if a youtuber I like does does something with it, I'll watch that to help inform my decision, and that often seals the deal. Tho exceptions happen, like Yakuza, which I was only vaguely aware of before I saw Super Eyepatch Wolf's video about it. And Katamari Damacy, which I got way back after seeing it on Game Grumps.

Hmm... there's plenty that I had an interest in and decided to buy them after watching a few lets plays as a kind of preview/review thing.

Otherwise:

Arma 3: because 40K mods, thanks Rimmy Downunder

Drizzlepath: Kirioth TV played this as a bit of a joke. I found it rather enchanting.

GTA 5: Not that I hadn't heard of it but watching yogscast multiplayer convinced me it might be fun.

Lucid: Thanks Lucahjin

Men of war assault squad 2: because 40K mods, thanks Rimmy Downunder

They are billions: ?

Minecraft: yogscast probably.

Not that many, like some others, thanks to being relatively set in my tastes (and being aware of the technical capabilities of my hardware), though to be fair, exceptions exist:

Gris - got this purely on the strength of theRadBrad's one off video for it (twice, as it happens)
Total War: Warhammer II - I was always going to end up getting this, but I delayed it because I didn't think my laptop would be able to run it (I'd watched a lot of content from a YouTuber, and a friend convinced me to get it anyway so I could weigh in on the streamer trash-talking, and it's one of my most played games ATM)
Plus a few games (including Dishonored, Just Cause 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and a couple others) that I've gotten because of ZP's reviews.

I don't watch streamers and let's players. I might have seen a couple, but those have always been about games that I already own because I was interested in researching something about the game and I stumbled upon a let's play video on YouTube.

It's rare for me. Either I have no interest in a game or don't want to be spoiled if I do. I think there's the rare game where I'll watch someone stream because I have a slight interest but the reviews haven't sold me yet, so I'm hoping the stream might kindle some interest. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any where a stream got me to buy a game that reviews and word of mouth didn't. '

Normally I'll watch Yathzee and Jack do their stream if it's a game I have some interest in but that's about it.

I don't think I own any games from watching YouTube or streamers. But I put down 1-10 just in case I maybe didn't think of one.

None. I don't watch lets plays, I consider them spoilers. I'd rather just play the game myself instead if I like it and I'd rather play a different game than to watch a lets play of a game I do not care for enough to play myself.

I do look at game footage, but this is after I already have an interest in getting the game, and not something that happens due to said footage. What I look for in the footage is to see whether my impression of the game that made me interested in it in the first place is accurate. Also it's not all that long either. I try to look at the least spoilery bits possible when investigating a game.

As for what it actually is that makes me interested, it's usually game announcements by the devs. I follow new game announcements closely and follow sites that list announcements of games I tend to enjoy so it's rather rare to miss out on something.
