How much did you spend buying video games, playing MMOs, or maintaining gaming in your lifstyle?
how do you go about choosing which games to buy in cases you don't have much money? Did you ever reach a point where in your expenses were too high that you had too stop. If so how did it get that way?

My first experience came from playing MMOs. I spent 2 years and 6 months playing before I realized that I had been wasting money and time and a lot of other things. It cost me about P22,000(I'm from the Philippines btw so it's proly not a big amount but it is a big deal here). When you hit the ceiling(lvl cap) that's pretty much it and PvP/GvG/RvR/etc. just wasn't enough to convince me to stay. Maybe that's because I'm more of an explorer that an automated machine.

As for buying games, I bought only 12 games in my entire life(original ones that is). The recent one being Fallout 3. I think it cost me more than P20,000. I only started buying them back in 2004. Back when my PC was still crap I only played games that were already installed on the computer or I just borrowed them from my friends. But as the years went by I finally got Internet hooked up in my house and I realized that the people around me never left the late 90's. Starcraft is a good game but you can't really put with the same thing for 4-5 years. during the previous years, I bought 1-2 games a year which costs me around P2,000-P5,000. Now though I don't have money to travel anymore and also nobody sells legal copies where I live. Sad to say but my gaming days are coming to a close.

As an end result I don't receive any allowance and I have to walk from school most of the time. If it sucks being a gamer in Australia, In the Philippines being a gamer kills.

The only other gamer I know from your country had to get some kid incarcerated in a nut house due to said kid becoming threatening towards the life of his family due to an MMO disagreement that my friend didn't think much of.

So I'm inclined to agree with you there =/

I dread to think how much gaming has cost me. New releases, imports, budget pickups, playing in arcades, WoW subscriptions... I hate to say it, but it's going to be thousands of pounds. Mind you, if I hadn't spent that money, I'd have missed out on a lot of great experiences.

I try not to spend a lot of money on games by buying a game that I've played before and I know will last me years. I'm still buying Game Cube games because I can get some good ones for less then $10.

This year, i spent 4 thousand dirhams worth of consoles, and games. Yeah. I am a heavy spender. Games over here are like, 100-320 dirhams depending on age.(100=old. 319=NEW.) I can get Assassin's Creed on the 360 for 170 dirhams. Which is awesome. But it is sorta stupid because they charge you more than in the States. Rock Band is more here than in the states or australia if you can believe that.

500 rupees.

I use the trade in for store credit a lot. But since it has been like 10 years since I was a student and I have a good job now, buying games isn't a big deal, but I do trade a lot in. I probably buy a new game every month or so.

More than is sensible. I have something like 400 full price games, collected over about the last 10-15 years on hand (and maybe about 100-150 more have fallen by the wayside, but were for things like the Spectrum anyway).

However, due to a generous bonus scheme at work I think I've managed to spend about £120 or so in the last year of my own personal money, whilst acquiring about £1000 worth of games.

In total this year I have spent just under £100 on games, most of that being the Valve Complete pack. But also Far cry for £3, Twilight Princess (cube version) for -£20 (bought 2 for £20, sold one on eBay for £40) and a fair few others.

I've never spent a gret deal on gaming as my other main hobby, cycling, is so damn expensive. This year I must have spent near £1500 on parts, servicing, event entries and travel.

For 2008? Probably about a hundred dollars Canadian. One new game and two used games. I've significantly cut down on my gaming in the past two years.

I've either had games purchased for me or purchased games for myself (when I turned 16 and managed to get an actual job) my entire life. Just a ball park estimate on the amount of money for the games I've had throughout my life, would probably be in the thousands range. Give or take and counting the consoles/computer upgrades that were purchased.

I'm just thinking..

Atari 2600, Dragon 32, Amstrad 464, Spectrum 48k, Atari ST, Amiga, SNES, PC, PS1, PC, PS2, PC, Xbox , PC. Add a shedload of games and extras for each to that!

Hell, I've spent thousands of pounds over the past 20 years or so of having disposable income, but...

When you consider a night down the pub can easily blow the price of a new game, what the hell, I might be a bit overweight but my liver isn't dead :D
