I usually tip at least 15%. 20% or more for excellent service. 10% if it was meh.

American here -- I tip about 15-20% and also round up. I would be mortified to leave no tip, I'd feel like a total jackass; unless the server actively spits in my face or something I couldn't imagine leaving nothing. :p The people here who don't tip because you're "poor" college students... if you can't afford to leave a tip, you can't afford the restaurant. Don't be cheapskates. Eat ramen if you can't act like a decent customer.

I think it might be mostly an American thing. To each culture their own, I guess. As least I know what to do now if I ever go over there.
