How much rice is made annually World-Wide?

I just want to know the answer to a basic question. One answer i got was 589 tonnes of PADDY rice. Im not sure if this is accurate as this is the only answer i could find. I am going to ask you people at the escapist for an answer.

Fairly sure it's something along the lines of 550 million tons.

Check OREC's website... sure they'd have something.
