How much time does my Xbox 360 have left?

I got my Xbox 360 Pro 14 months ago. For the last month or so, it's had a problem reading disks. When I start it up, it often fails to acknowledge that there is a game in the drive. Once I manage to get started, the disk reads perfectly, but it sometimes takes several tries to make the game start up. This is more of a problem for games I've played a lot, like Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead 2, but the problem definitely exists with new games.

If you have experience with this sort of issue, please tell me if this is a sign that the Xbox will stop working soon. Also, since they're no longer making Xbox 360 Pros, what will I get from Microsoft once I have to send in the Xbox 360 to be replaced? Will I be able to put the Pro's hard drive into a different kind of 360?

Yeah this could go on for ages.

If it's on warranty get a new one.

If not keep taking the hard drive in and out, this won't affect your hard drive but it can make the 360 e74 which puts it on warranty.

As for time I'd say a month or two...

I would guess that it doesn't have much time left. It sounds like either something has cone loose, or the laser is failing. Both of these problems will most likely need to be fixed by Microsoft, although if something has just come loose, then you may be able to do it yourself.

I would also believe that you would just get a refurbished Xbox if you send yours in. It should be of the same model. I think all the hard drives fit with the other 360s, but I am not positive on that.

Sounds like the optics are failing on the DVD drive. Or your disks have scuffs. Could be Dust as well. try blowing out your xbox with can air. Otherwise call Xbox tech support and see if they can help. I have had great luck with MS supporting my xbox. Had a HD fail and RRoD both were fixed for free.

I've actually had problems with mine doing that as well. I find that it's usually caused by the Xbox either being too hot or too cold. Usually too cold and then when it finally warms up it plays just fine. Mines been doing this for about six months. I'd still replace it if it's under warranty, though.

I had one of the original 360s, it got the red rings more then three times, stopped reading disks, tray even stopped opening so I just got a new one, it still works to this day just I never use it.
Before you're 360 is broken, If it really is better then the oldys, NEVER, but it will stop reading, and opening too.

I had this problem before, but my only solution was to suck it up. Yes, it's annoying but once the warrenty's up your kinda screwed. I actually got mine working with some fiddling with a friend but shortly after it got error code E74.

I would say not much time because I'm going through the same thing with mine, but I'm not ready to give up just yet because my 360 (which I'm currently calling the JesusBox) has gone through two red rings and the brick has even gone red and it's still functioning.

Xbox 360 consoles last as long as you have a warranty. If that expires, then your 360 may have a week left to live before either E-74 or RRoD kills it off. This happened to me twice.
