I was looking at some Megaman 9 gameplay videos a bit earlier, and I was reading some of the comments left on the video saying that the game better be around 400MPS on XBLA. I myself was thinking I'd be willing to pay more for this game, as long as it was truly an original title. Then I stopped to think for a while, just how much I've already spent on XBLA and VC games.
I used to be very heavily against paying for downloaded games, mostly because you can easily download them for free. In my mind, it wouldn't make too much difference because I wouldn't really OWN the game; it's just software that you can delete, not an actual CD or cartridge. Then later on I found that paying for the download would mean I'm supporting the company behind the game, and if the game is good enough I'll pay for it, even if I've played a pirated copy first. I mostly did that with the GBA, so I could play the game at least half a year before the European release here. I'm aware it's a bad thing for the industry, but I did always buy them legally later on, in my eyes I was merely borrowing a copy.
Now I have about 30 XLA games, most of them are old games that from older consoles (Castlevania SOTN, Bomberman, Worms, etc.) and the last time I bought a game on the Wii, I had to delete some VC games in order to make a save file.
Now that I look back at some of the games I ended up buying, I feel like I wasted some money. Not because I'm not owning the copy, but because of the poor choices I made. But at the same time, I'm wondering if I'd still be upset about it if they were cheaper, or if I'd pay the same amount of money for the actual cartridge/CD.
At the same time original "8bit" games such as Megaman make it difficult for me to judge how much I'd like to pay for it. Especially after hearing you can choose if you want to play it with the old school sprite limitations and lag, as if you're actually playing it on the NES. To me that sounds like they are really trying their best to get a real 8bit feel to game.
I'm edging towards 800MPs as being a reasonable price.
I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts is on retro gaming outside of the original platforms. What would be a reasonable price for a brand new 8/16bit game? Does it feel as if making a retro game like Megaman 9 is cheap milking tactic?
