How not to get banned.

I'm not exactly confrontational, most of the stuff I've been done for is just stupid stuf on my part (other stuff...well....yeah) but I'm literally one infraction away from a ban, ask most peopel and dont think (hopefully) they would call me a troll or an ass

there is a difference between somone who is generally an ass and somone who slips up one too many times

Saying things like "reported" tend to draw moderation wrath from what I've seen. It can seem like trolling even when it's not, and the rule is "report and move on." Not "say you've reported them...."

I'm not saying Mortai deserved it, but if the rule as listed above is that at the last health level you can catch a ban for things that wouldn't even get others a warning....

yeah...the "reported" thing could be a bit petty at times...I think he even admited it at one point

12: Don't forget advocating illegal activities is against the rules, the mods turn a blind eye to fairly innocuous ideas like legalising weed or gay marriage but people have been modded for advocating arson or murder.

You know, discussing the legality of a subject isn't the same as advocating the actual act. Saying you think pot should be legal is not the same as saying that you smoke pot.

For that matter, discussing arson is not the same as suggesting it, or sharing your methods. The rules seem pretty much geared towards the latter, not the former, in both instances.

This is hard to put into words, but don't get overly offended over trivial stuff.

That was, I think, part of what did Mortai Gravesend in. He would constantly report (seemingly) any post that responded to him with any sort of disagreement, saying that he was deeply offended.

My suggestion, then, is to only report posts that you seriously think are inflammatory. Don't bring extra attention to yourself by reporting posts linked to yours if you're also being an ass.

I once got a warning after someone said that I was acting LIKE an ass, and I responded claiming that he didn't need to be a dick about it. The mod that reviewed my post agreed that his post was just as inflammatory as mine (as in, not very), and overturned my warning. However, it could easily have reversed, where BOTH of us got a warning despite both of us using only lightly-inflammatory language, not language at all worthy of a warning.

Aren't you the person that he said he had reported because you said he was report happy? Right before he got banned? That gave me a little chuckle.

OT: I should think it would be a little obvious how to avoid being banned, to be honest. If you're not throwing out thinly-veiled insults or posting things that don't add to the thread at hand, you're probably okay. Also, if you're making a joke that would be viewed as offensive, maybe tone it down a little bit? Or make it obvious that it's a joke in big, bold text or something. Like that post DragonLord Seth got suspended for. Pretty sure he didn't need to go quite so overboard there, but at the same time I think that at least most of it was meant to be a joke.

And if somebody makes a post that just gets your blood boiling from the sight of it, well, you could always just not post. There is absolutely nothing forcing people to respond to posts that they know will just end up in a massive flame storm.

I have yet to encounter any trolling on this site. That's what keeps me coming back. The Escapist forums are like the exact opposite of the Youtube comments section. I keep begging Cracked to use a banhammer.

In regards to low content in replies, cannot help the feeling that admin are counting the words and not seeing the context. The need to add another line of blabbering to avoid ban when the point is already made.

A simple yes or no answer can get you banned then.

You can't say "Skyrim, Obligotory words so mods won't hammer me" I have seen this and it does not work.

I guess there are a lot of rules and regulations on this forum, more so than most forums, but personally I don't have a problem with that. It keeps the atmosphere positive, and ensures a degree of dignity and even maturity- two things sorely lacking from just about every other forum I've ever visited.

There are forum users that are epileptic or photosensitive, that would would most likely trigger that, it would be irresponsible to allow that, besides it's unpleasant to look at, I'm not epileptic or photosensitive but that really tired my vision, so yeah it's kind off bad.

Looking at the post that he was banned in that's probably the case. Although I wouldn't be surprised if his overuse of the word 'liar' had something to do with it as well.

Shame he was banned though, even though he was probably a bit too straightforward in what he thought, I found him to be among the more insightful people on this site

No, see, it'd be pointless to post at all if you have to look through your posts to find everything that might be offensive to someone, not for grammar and the like. Somewhat two different things.

I wasn't saying that you need to give your post a full investigation before submitting it, to expect that of anyone who posts would be insane. I don't think it is unreasonable though to expect forum users to have a quick glance at least to be able to shoot down anything obvious. My point was that in having this quick glance it would be extremely hard to miss any spelling errors, therefore frequent spelling errors in a post can be interpreted as a sign that the poster has not made this quick glance. I have no problem with other people making spelling or grammatical errors, it doesn't bother me at all.
