How often do feel hyped about games?

Only for sequels to games I really like, usually. I'm currently hyped for XCOM 2, even though I wish there was a console port of it (seriously, XCOM won't be a demanding game), as Enemy Unknown is one of my favourite games and I could do with a sequel that irons out my issues with the original. Plus that scenario, man.

Before that? I think CoD: Black Ops II was the last game I felt hyped for. The prospect of Treyarch trying to play around with the formula that Black Ops and MW3 had began to stagnate was very enticing to me, and I liked the idea behind the Zombies changes they did. The game actually surpassed my hype, standing as my second favourite in the series behind the wonderful World at War.

And there's Bayonetta 2 as well, but I actually only got hyped for it shortly before release when I decided that then was the time to get a Wii U, so I'm not sure if I was ever truly hyped for it.

In the sense of frothing fanboy anticipation, I can't get hyped anymore[footnote]I hear there's a pill for that, but I'm not spending the money on that either.[/footnote] (exceptions being something like a 2D/Primelike Metroid). Too many sour stories in the past ten years. The last two games I preordered were Skyrim (because I was getting the PC version and knew modders would fix whatever critical fuck ups Bethesda made) and Skyward Sword (because I was going to get it anyway and the Wii was doing too good of a job as a dust magnet).

I'll wait for a game I'm watching come out and let word of mouth build up, then decide if, and at what price, I want something. It worked for Colonial Marines. I was looking forward to that game, but, because of how that one turned out and how the hype machine handled its previews, I've yet to try it and won't until I come across it on sale.

I rarely get hyped. But I was impressed by Persona 5 trailer mainly because of the music. Consider me hyped I guess.

Basically never. I generally only enjoy games where I can play a female lead from start to finish. That's not to say I don't play dude games, but I generally don't get the same level of enjoyment.
Even with a female protagonist from start to finish, I worry about the story component depending on how important it is to the game.
The new Tomb Raider kinda lost me with Xbone exclusivity.
I am looking forward to the next chapter/episode of Life is Strange coz of the end of episode 3.
I'm looking forward to Fallout 4. Bethesda's great about writing, and not limiting the character to one gender, but hyped? I dunno.
I'm looking forward to Senran Kagura Burst 2.

Seeing a new Nobunaga's Ambition made me smile for certain.

I guess I'm just not all that exciteable.

I don't get hyped anymore. And frankly it baffles me how anyone still can. After fiascos like Aliens: Colonial Marines how can people still get hyped for things and do the pre-order thing?

I've felt the same way about preorders, but I did run into one case. On youtube, I had the preorder debate with someone who still buys physical copies of games, or maybe it was Amiibos, I didn't get the details. It sounds likely since he said that it sold out quickly and wasn't available for weeks. Anyway, getting something before it sells out was pretty much the reason preordering existed in the first place before companies started abusing the practice. I couldn't tell him to just stop getting physical copies, since there are benefits and downsides to both digital and physical so in the end, I conceded defeat.

Don't get me started on pre-orders. In the age of digital distribution there is literally no reason to pre-order unless you want the bullshit bonuses which will probably be included with the Game of the Year/Collector's Edition anyway.

Unless, as I just mentioned, you're not buying digitally.

Hyped is an annoying word. Too much like skyped. Or tripe..d. It implies being manipulated by marketing too, apparently on here. So to avoid being judged as a pawn of th e media machine, I shall say excited.
Hmmm, excited? Only for things I am pretty certain will be excellent. I don't have many useful skills of yet, but I seem to be able to avoid trickery and disappointment by seeing past the bullshit. So haven't been burned by any game yet. Each excitement has actually lead to a really good gaming experience so far. No doubt my fall will come. But not while this mind is still fully functioning through it's substance abused haze!
Arkham Knight and The phantom pain are my excite nuggets right now. Both for very good reasons. Avoided Arkham origins, woop. Score 1 for me, 0 for hype machine.
Witcher 3 I was excited for, even while not liking witcher 2 or much else related to it. Mainly due to that there was goodness in witcher 2, but the tools I had to scoop it out with were too unfavourable to enjoy. Seeing the work put into the 3rd really gave me hope. Woop. Score 2 for me, 0 for hype machine.

Sigh, bored of this game now. But you get the point I hope.

Given that games are available digitally now, how often do they actually sell out in the retail space anymore?

I try not to be. I've been burned too many times, and my free time for trying the offerings of everyone who wants a piece of my wallet is far more limited than it was twenty or so years ago. Now and again I'm pleasantly surprised- The Walking Dead, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dishonored, Grow Home (the last of which arrived as a gift with virtually no hype and brought me several hours of glee, thus the free plug.) Many others I realize that I'm playing through them just so I can say I'm done with them, a category Bioshock Infinite ultimately fell into as well as Remember Me and F.3.A.R. And then there's others that I play for a few minutes, really intend to get back to... and then just don't.

I'm delighted when games are like new friends- when you're constantly discovering new things and they "fit in" with you better than you could have expected. I love finding games that ask for my time, promise they'll make it worth my while, and follow through on their promises.

But I guess I don't "make friends" as easily as I once did.

I don't know for sure, but the guy I was talking to said it can set him back for weeks if he doesn't preorder or get it at launch before it sells out. I buy digitally, so I can't really speak from experience. I suppose it's worse in some stores than it is in others. However, he said that even Amazon was not able to provide him with what he was looking for while he was waiting for stores to restock. If it's Amiibos he's looking for, then I'm not surprised, given what I've heard about Nintendo's poor track record in matching customer demand for thsoe, but can someone even preorder those?

I've learned to not get hyped for a game, ever, 97% of the time I end up dissapointed or outright betrayed, the only exception is for the very few developers that have not yet given me a reason to mistrust them i.e. CD Project Red

I'm certainly very hyped for Arkham Knight. Used to be for Silent Hills as well. And The Last Guardian before it.
