I'm a huge Battlefield fan, and I mostly play Bad Company 2 on Console (Yes I know PC is great but all my friends play Console)

And a lot of my friends don't play the game nearly as much as they used to, and they almost all say it's because they stopped having stuff to unlock.

How often do you stop playing a game because you ran out of unlocks to get?

My answer being not very often.

I can't really come up with any specifics, but I know I've done it at least a few times. New unlocks, new toys to play with, can be all that keeps a game going, depending on what type of game it is. I'm playing WH:40K Space Marine now; it's a good example.

Truth be told I probably actually would end up quitting when I stopped unlocking stuff if I played less sandbox games like GTA4 and Just Cause 2 and more FPS games.

I haven't played Fallout 3 and Dragon Age Origins since getting every achievement from those 2.

Well, I've got most of the trophies from ME2, but I'm still playing(and not on insanity, that will probably be my 3rd playthrough).

Not so much running out of unlocks, as those unlocks taking too long to unlock.

It's why I stopped playing WoW, and CoD:MW. I understand the later levels & gear need to take time to unlock, but it always becomes too long for me.

I'm under the impression that I will stop, or at least play less Team Fortress 2 when I Hit every milestone with the characters. until then, Scout took me almost 10 play hours but i finally got all his milestones. (mostly because most of his involved the sandman which was unlocked once I got several hard achievements like killing one person in the air, land, and then water.)

I quit playing Battlefield 2 with plenty of gear left to unlock. When I repeatedly go against players that have acquired mystical skillz, then I accept that this wasn't the game that I wanted to play. And I move on.

All-medic squads. Diving knife kills. Ninja acrobatics. Using THAT spot on the map against me. You know what I mean.

Edit: I haven't quite yet gotten all the unlockable achievements in Half-Life 2 or Portal - but its not the unlocks that bring me back to those games again and again. BF2, not so much.

I stopped playing Oblivion when I realised there was nothing more to see. The sad thing is that I've barely touched the main quests when it happened. But I had my fun with it.

I shall always play the newest Super Smash Bros. game, no matter what it happens to be, regardless of the possibility of unlockables. However, I think that this is the only game. MMORPG's, though, are a different matter entirely.
