How often do you try to avoid divisive issues?

Without telling anything that would break the little legal document I signed when I got my job, lemme tell you about my day.

I do market research, and more often than not a political issue (*heaves*) will grace my presence. Today it was the oh so causal subject of gay marriage and equal rights in general.

(Note: take discussion of that to R&P if you have to talk about it, not like these forums haven't driven it into the ground already)

I was actually considering walking out of work, just for the knowledge that I would not enjoy discussing that in any capacity with strangers.

So I ask, how far will you go to not get involved in controversial, divisive, or touchy subjects like that?

I'll forcibly change the topic of discussion if serious political discussion breaks out with my family while I'm around.

Erm... Depends who with. In general I will do my best to avoid it but if said person pressures me I will probably make a vague statement.

Depends on how well I know the person. I'll generally just ignore a complete stranger, but with friends I do try to justify my beliefs as well as I can. Of course, most of my friends have pretty much the same views as I do, so it isn't very difficult.
