Ok I want to start by saying i know every game has a subtlty to it and realising/using the quiet mastery is what causes a person to become pro at that particular game. Generally first person shooters i have learned what the art behind them are. But Gears of war... how the hell do i become good with the various weapons accross the map. They spawn maybe once in a millenia and because i suck with say the sniper rifle i feel like a total ass picking it up and f-ing my team over, but heres where the paradox is, i don't know how the hell i'm suppose to become good with it because i never want to use it, for the reason mentioned above. I can almost hear the more polite players silently cussing me to shreds because i just missed someone who was out in the open.
Halo is a less severe cause of this in the fact that the only weapon i need improvement on would again be the sniper rifle but theres usually only one in the middle or one to a side and they spawn very slowly i have been teamkilled more then once for missing the flag carrior just strolling accross valhalla and i can't even blame them! I know in Call of duty, Left 4 dead, Battlefield when i see someone who has maybe a 1/4 k/d or is picking up weapons they can't use (l4d usually the sniper (Why is it always snipers?)) i get really pissed. So aside from shooting cans in a private match does anyone have any tips or want to add more complaints to this post? (i realise i'm just ranting here)

on a side note i can't fly a damn helicopter in battlefield either.

Practice. Either single player or multiplayer, practice.

Go to Youtube. Theres probably some videos there.
Also, grammer needs a bit of work.
These two things will also help.

The second thing more than the first.

Anyway, the only way I found to get better at a game is to play it. There is no magical formula that suddenly makes you better. Its like anything else in life, you have to practice. Having trouble sniping? use the sniper rifle. You're not going to get anybetter if you dont try.

If you haven't already, play through the campaigns. Try harder difficulty so the enemies aren't standing still all the time. That should get you comfortable with the weapons. Then it's just a matter of practicing multiplayer until you learn how people move and you can predict where they will be when you fire.

You can also try messing with the settings. Maybe the look sensitivity isn't right for you. Maybe you'd be better playing inverted.

Play Annex for Gears of War - infinite respawns, and most player matches are more about practice killing others than actually scoring points.

Well, perhaps you could help me out as I don't know how to kill anyone in Halo 3 with anything other than a Battle Rifle.

I am particularly useless with the Assault Rifle...I may as well be tickling them given the amount of damage I seem to inflict.

Same with any game dude, I don't play FPS's online much so when I do all I can do is go assault rifle and hope lol.
I'm fine with them but anything else and I blow. If I wanted to get any better then it would just have to be solid old school practise mate!!

The only FPS I play online since halo has come out is BF2142. I also sucked in GOW multiplayer then again I sucked in GOW. The game was to clunky for me. Helo in BF is just something you gotta practice with. Play some single player and just goof around in it you will get the hang of it sooner or later.

On grammar it is just a thing in some forums at least you dont get permaban because you missed a period.

Gears multiplayer is broken- I wouldnt worry too much about it. Epic have made a game with a veneer of the hardcore, but in fact its just a smack-fest for adolescent morons that cant shoot straight. This is a typical breakdown of a Gears2 multiplayer match;

Players spawn. Half of each team dash for the over powered power weapons, throwing grenades in as they go, then circle strafe with shotguns. The rest of the players take up cover positions and stand amazed as their gun fire does fuck all. Survivor of the power weapon dash picks it up and mops up. Wank.

If you want results without resorting to these tactics, use the hammerburst. Aim for centre mass and tap the fire button rapidly rather than holding it down(you get a much faster rate of fire at the cost of accuracy) and readjust your aim as the kickback knocks it out. Most of the smacktards that use the above tactics I mentioned can't do this, and dont even try, so they're not expecting it to drop them as quick as it will-especially if youve got active reload.

Aside from single player and horde, this game is awful. I wouldnt bother.

Battle rifle is the best gun anyway-if you like that you should try covenant carbine- as long as you hit the head its shocking how quick people drop. Assault rifle is good as long as you're at close range- dropping the shield then going in for a melee strike works well (if your right in someones face they're in trouble unless they're dual wielding or packing a shotgun).

Thanks. I'm getting a little better with the Carbine. It has better zoom, but the tracers disclose my location too much. I used to be great with Plasma grenades, but I seem to have lost the knack. Throwing one into the interior of a Warthog that was trying to Splatter me, then vaulting over it only to turn and see all its occupants explode, used to be my primary skill; but I haven't had much luck lately. Either, Bungie have made this trick harder to pull off, or I am suffering lag from other players - it isn't my broadband...

Eww, why are you playing Gears 2? I agree completely, it's absolute rubbish. I guess I just assumed the OP was playing Gears 1 because I don't play Gears 2 anymore. What really pisses me off is that everything has such horrible hit detection - especially when cover is involved. The game just devolves into a shotgun two-piecing extravaganza.

You don't. You do the same thing over and over again (outlined above; rush for power weapon) ad infinitum.

It's point-and-shoot; cover in multiplayer is BS and worthless.

I'm going to agree with Annex, which is how I learned, and play horde on river especially, you get some good sniper practice

I'm assuming spelling grammar as grammer is an international joke of some sort?

Unfortunately I have nothing new to contribute with, these guys have said it and are right.
