I just finished downloading the Steam version of Mass Effect, but it will not play. At all. I know that EA stuffed the game with abusive DRM to deter pirates, but I have no idea how to register my copy. I found and created an account on EA's "Origin" web service, but I see no option to activate a Steam copy of Mass Effect, or any version of the game, for that matter.

I've seen no indication of how to get the game started. I get the "Steam is preparing to launch Mass Effect..." message, then... nothing. My laptop is certainly up to specs, so I assume product registry is the issue. Anyone remember how to fix this?

I'd prefer the safe and legal route, but thanks anyway.
I'd suggest contacting Steam support, they surely have some insight as to how to install "their" version.

...And it'd be safe and legal :)

How long do you wait until you cancel the thing? Keep in mind first time launches can take a while, especially with Steam since it seems to check if Direct X is properly installed and all that. AT least that's what I get with all the games running through Steam.
