How to create custom forum icon?

Lil help please? I want to make a custom icon, but lack the technical skills, which I am sure makes me some kind of creepy techno-half not, so I beseech the more savvy (read: less lazy) forummites to guide me. (it's kinda like when a Jedi makes his own light saber)
