How to get over someone quickly

Hey guys, me and my girlfriend of a few months just broke up, and I'll and spare you the details (and the annoying self pity).

Anyway, when you end a relationship or get rejected, how do you get over it quickly and make the person seem undesirable? I could use a a few tips/smartass comments/unrelated rants on gender politics warranting a suspension from the mods.

Oh, and inb4 copious amounts of porn. Not as effective as one might think...

Anyway, there is no sure fire to get over someone. It'll happen when it happens and you can't really speed up the process.

From my own experience I just try to ignore them and put myself out there more, like go to stuff I didn't go to (more parties etc) to try and get them out of my mind. I also get rid of anything related to them; shirts, gifts, books, anything like that I just box up and tape it shut. Hope this helps

Get out and do social things. If you talk and socialize with other people for hours a day, you'll feel less of the emotional attachment to the person.

Look in the newspaper, find some concerts/restaurants/whatever to go to with friends. Or you could do your own thing and have a poker night or something like that. Take up a new hobby that involves people, if you wish.

Just make sure you're being socially busy, and who knows, maybe you'll find someone better than her.

It's not like there's an omnipotent surefire way of going about it asides giving it the time it takes.

Just remember that there's plenty of fish in the sea, and if you could catch one then you'll certainly be able to catch another.

Anyways, back to the OT: Do some more social events, find things you like to do (play music, go out with friends, anything really) and focus more on it. Find something to be passionate about, and go along with it.

I know you don't want to go into specifics, but I do feel like it needs to be asked: Who broke up with who?

Did you dump her?
Did she dump you?
Was is an angry break-up on both sides?
Was it a mutual agreement?

I'll try and help, but I think the type of breakup greatly affects the advice that needs to be given.

Alternatively, if you are ignoring my awesome advice (single teardrop) - Your best bet is to just do something you enjoy. Make yourself better at SOMETHING. Doesn't really matter what as long as it is a somewhat achievable goal and you have to work hard to do it.

Guarantee you'll start thinking about this person a lot less if you have something awesome to do. Like going to the gym!

Well, when I broke up with my boy friend of two years, I enveloped myself in video games and movies. My passions for my creative outlets ran dry, so I indulged in already established worlds of fantasy.

J-Horror movies were the most appealing for some reason.

Because I don't know the context of the break-up, I really can't offer concrete advice. Though I can say that I do not agree with some of the above posts.

Don't date other people until you're ready. Take the time alone to get to know your needs a little better. The best way to approach a relationship is to understand your own needs before committing. After you know yourself, you will probably find it easier to understand the right type of person for you.

Having sex with someone else so soon is not going to help. I see a lot of bitter people post answers like this. First of all, its dangerous. Secondly, it only makes you feel better momentarily. I have been there, and done that. It was not worth it.

I don't mean to sound as though I am belittling your experience, but don't let a couple of months of experience bring you down for long. I found that when I wasn't watching movies and playing video games, that I was trying to be as productive as I could be. Getting more involved with my family helped too. I didn't ask them for advice, I just tried to have fun times with them. It helped me a lot. I hope that you have found some of this rambling useful.

Distractions, lots and lots of them. Build up a repertoire of new talents. Pick up your guitar again. Become #1 in your state at Trackmania. Get some world record score runs on SSX Tricky. Write. A lot. Just to get it out there, you know? What goes onto the paper that comes out of you can be used for a lot of things. Just release, just getting ideas out, or used somewhere else. But I highly maintain that just starting up new projects will help you feel better. Focus your efforts elsewhere. And any time you start missing her, start humming the "Beverly Hillbillies" theme instead to keep her outta your head. It takes time, practice, willpower, but you can do it.

Basically, focus on your talents, develop new skills, start projects, anything. Hell, put together a desk. Build a birdhouse. Learn to crochet. It all helps. Get to level 30 on League of Legends. Whatever. Start a MMO if you want. Home improvement. Cooking. It's all good. Anything other than wallowing in self-pity.
