Ok, this probably exists somewhere else, but I've tried for 20 minutes and I can't find it, so either answer my questions here or kindly provide me with a link to what I want to know.

My question is this: what do you do to make your posts feature bold letters, italics letters, crossed out words, smaller text, larger text, anything? I can only figure out Quoting, Caps Lock, and posting images.

Please, all you forum masters, help me make my replies more interesting.

And if it turns out there is some blatently obvious source for this stuff that I couldn't find, then I apologize and only ask that you throw candy-glass bottles at me instead of broken ones.

It's done using BBCode, a guide to which can be found here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/markup_help.php]. It's linked from the Forum Posting Guidelines [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.116827].

Edit: though if you're using Firefox, you can download an app that will do it for you.

The content is more important than stuff like bold letters. Oh, definitely don't leave caps lock on all over your posts.

You don't need to use the for italics, ordinary brackets work as well. BBCode will generally recognize the same control charactersthat XHTML usesas demonstrated by the paragraph breaks I just inserted as a test using (without spaces obviously).

The advantage to doing it that way is it's applicable whether you're formatting text in a forum post or formatting text on a webpage. I find the regular brackets easier to type though, since they aren't a character you have to hit Shift to type.

Nope, seems too time consuming for me to bother with.

Interesting, you say?
Make sure to leave LOL after every sentence, in order to convey your enthusiasm for the subject you are trying to peddle.

[ s][ /s] without the spaces for strikeout.
[ sup] [ /sup] for superscript
[ sub][ /sub] for subscript
[ small] [ /small] for small font

The basics would be:

[*i] insert text [/i] for italics
[*b] insert text [/b] for bold
[*u] insert text [/u] for Underline
[*spoiler] Insert text [/spoiler] for the spoiler box

You need to include a colour,
e.g. [color=red]This text will be red.[/color]

*sigh* very well. *puts down broken glass bottle*

A really useful tip to see how BB code works: quote the guy with the BB Code you're interested in. You can then see what he has typed to make it work and take it from there, experimenting as you like. Whilst things like wilson's BB Code And You[footnote]http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.55865[/footnote] thread and the Forum Markup Guide[footnote]http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/markup_help.php[/footnote] are useful, they don't show you everything you can do with the marvels of BB Coding (yes, not even the forum markup guide shows you everything).
