This is primarily for those people that are new to the escapist and forums in general. As I have recently seen an increase in the number of topics that are not open to discussion, or that are repeats of topics that were created within a week of each other, I have decided to provide some helpful tips.

First thing that you need to do when posting in a gaming forum is to have a discussion on games. There are other forums where people will read items that deal with other aspects of society. Let me provide an example of a good subject line. "An analysis of the storyline of Infamous" This topic let's people know what game is being discussed, and what is being discussed about the game.

The second item that you need to consider when posting a topic of your own is to make sure that the same topic has not been posted within the past two weeks. Some people would like there to be a larger gap between topics, but if two weeks pass without anyone posting, the discussion from that thread is pretty much done. If you bring this back you may be scolded for reviving a dead thread.

The third and final basic guideline that you should follow when making a topic is have your opening post reflect not only your opinion on the topic, but a followup statement or question that opens the topic up for further discussion. Here is one example of a very poor post that I recently encountered. "for the same reasons the americans lost, you can't fight an enemy you can't see."
There are several problems with this post. First off we do not want readers of our thread to be forced to include the subject line with the post. The post should be able to stand on it's own. The second major problem with this post is that it does not offer up a specific subject to discuss. It only includes the poster's opinion. The only responses that are asked for by a post of this type is to either agree with the post or disagree. The final issue is that it is not posted in complete sentences and ideas. We only have half a post here, and there is a capitalization issue.

Please remember these suggestions when making your gaming post. Thank you for reading and I hope that your new posts will receive less anger from the community. Happy posting.

This should be stickied.
Thank you flip, but that would mean I would need to go though and make it more in depth, consider making it a little more reader friendly, and some other aesthetic decisions. That is far too much work for my lazy self to do.
