yeah Emulators are a rather touchy subject... Since you know you're supposed to own the games that you use on said emulators.
So, it wouldn't be illegal if I downloaded ROMs of some old PS1 game that I own?

What about games that I used to own?

Games that I lost, but never sold?
That's a very iffy area. I'd say do it, personally, since you owned the game and it may not be your fault that you lost it. But others may say it's wrong and still infringing copyright (though I ask how if you've already paid for it and not profited from it's loss in any way...). As I said above, I don't endorse piracy. But I don't think you'd be in the wrong, entirely, in such a case.
One last thing, what about stolen games? Someone took my copy of Legend of Dragoon years ago. And pissed me the fuck off.

I didn't know that there were so many internet squirrels, but at least on xbox live I'm [sub]almost[/sub] unique.
Had to lose the 'i' on my xbox live account due to the sheer amount of options taken, so it's down to flaming_squrrel, which sucks somewhat..

Well my usual online FPS tag is flaming_gerbil, which I've been intending to make an avatar for a long time, but never got round to due to lazy, etc.

Dammit beat to the punch, but I totally agree with him, as long as you've paid for the thing some time in the past, regardless of if you've lost it or whatever I believe it's alright, I've done it, you paid for the game and given the developers cash so I believe it's alright.

Fair enough, as mine was from google images (I typed in "squirrel"), but if I ever get the chance in an IT lesson, I'll try to make one for you (although it may not be amazing).

I personally believe the same situation applies. Again, some people will no doubt disagree, but I don't see a problem with it. And as for the person who stole your game, as a recent burglary victim myself, I hope they end up getting the RRoD or equivalent on whatever console they own! (And I hope the damn guy who may have stolen my Xbox also gets the RRoD, assuming it's actually gone. I won't find out until I'm back at my home in Leeds on Saturday...).

This was about 6-7 years ago. And a PS1 game.

That'd be awesome, unfortunately I no longer have any software capable of making something half decent...

To be honest, just google the name of the emulator in question with the word 'tutorial' and you'll find a detailed, concise explanation of what should be done. That's how I get the harder emulators running, although most are fairly simple.

With regards to legality: it's a total grey area. You probably won't get into any trouble, but legally you really should own a physical copy of the game in question (although even then it's not exactly 100% kosher, as the EULA generally doesn't give you ownership of the actual game files and content).

Normally I don't endorse the use of file sharing programs, but if your downloading games that are NES, SNES, and such then it's much easier this way.

Mainly because you don't have to go through 3 pages of porn ads, wait in q for the download, all one at a time. Of course, scan for viruses before you open any files.

Also, sometimes just finding games is a *****.
