Probably greed, resulting in a war over a few remaining resources which a first world country needs to set off into space and colonize a planet, thus wasting more resources in the war, and thus mankind not being able to colonize another planet and us destroying our selfs.
Stupidity. If there's one thing life has taught me, it's to never underestimate the stupidity of mankind. I'm not sure on the details, but I'm nearly 100% positive that will be the main cause.
Also, thank you OP for not letting this turn into another zombie apocalypse thread. That fad is really getting old.

Either the Sun Imploding, or Mankind being Mankind and nuking ourselves over something as trivial as who saw Mountain X first. But even then I'm leaning towards the sun imploding being the final curtain for Mankind and every other species for that matter because even in Nuclear war man will live on though really little and probably very weak but we're a resourceful member of the genus Homo. It's why we're still around and our buddy Neanderthal is gone.

Depleting resources such as fresh drinking water and oil will drastically change the worlds population as we know it.
The end of the human race though is hard to imagine. I'd assume some would survive most major world changes including the next inevitable ice age. As such, only something improbable would finish humanity entirely, such as a major meteor strike.

You say no zombies, but you include disease which leads to A LOT of different zombie-like (aka "Infected") ideas. I personally think it's going to be something like this because I personally want it to be this. I've logged in enough hours of L4D to have a general idea of what to do. Find 3 other people and use them as meatshields while I lead us to safety.Amphoteric said:

An evil organization gains enough power to threaten either one of the top 5 biggest countries or the whole world. (This organization could be a country, but I'd rather it be an evil organization so it isn't affiliated with anyone and makes them seem more mysterious). First they hack computer systems around the world and eventually gain control of the internet. Second, they start actually attacking people (bombs, germ-weapons, etc). Eventually they actually start making demands before deciding to just say "fuck it" and blow us all up anyway. Personally, I'm hoping for something like the Injustice Gang or the Legion of Doom because that would be pretty sweet.
Asteroid collision: Earth would explode/end in about 2 minutes, so it doesn't matter if that happened or not. We wouldn't know.Amphoteric said:

Nuclear Weapons: Mankind does not have the capacity to explode itself to death. The radiation would suck, yes, but if you had a nuke for every person, there would still be survivors.
Sun dying: It would take 2 minute and 26 seconds for life on Earth to end when the sun stopped. If it just fizzled out (ignoring the laws of physics) all processes on Earth would stop; climate, wind, oceans, plants, animals, etc. If the Sun exploded (like it would if it "died") then it would take about 1 minute and 50 seconds for the explosion to reach Earth and annihilate Earth.

I don't think the Earth will end, and if/when it does, I don't care, because I won't be able to stop it.
We won't die. Humanity will continue to expand, and grow. We will build mighty ships, like the days of yore, and set out into the abyss on our continuing mission to discover strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no man has gone before!
At least, I hope. Humanity has far too much potential to just give up and let ourselves be destroyed by whatever doom manifests itself. We will be, in the end, the greatest creation of this planet; its greatest resource and its greatest contribution to the tapestry of existence. I for one will be very, very disappointed in my decedents if they all get wiped out. Earth deserves better than to just be forgotten to history.
