It always struck me as the "fake gamer girl" thing, where people were convinced women were pretending to like games because....Gamers are generally such awesome catches? I mean, I'm amazing, and so is Fappy, and you're pretty cool, but that list is pretty small.

B. The game journalists and developers are commenting that the gaming scene is incredibly toxic. Never mind that GAMERS have been crying this for years; it seems once the journalists/developers say it, it becomes a grave insult rather than what they themselves have been preaching. I'm wondering if it's like the parent who rips their child constantly but will flip their shit when anyone else says anything that can be remotely taken as a possible slight against their angel...

I think the issue is that when we say it, we know we mean "not including me, of course, because I am awesome and nobody could take issue with me." When someone else says it, possibly even with qualifiers and disclaimers, we think "but I'm a gamer, they must be talking about me!"

Look at the way people have constructed narratives around MovieBob and Devin Faraci.

I find the allegations of corruption pretty laughable. The only time I've ever seen gamers care about "corruption" is when a reviewer fails to score a game in such a way as to fail to provide the gamer with the confirmation they so desperately desire.

I just took a brief look at the last page of the shitstorm. While I understand that the grudge seems to be the ever-surging conspiracy theory about corruption in the industry, I don't understand why you keep pouring gasoline on the fire.

Also, why is it called a conspiracy THEORY? Is there any evidence for such a corruption? Because if not, it's a conspiracy hypothesis.

It won't change how I view websites at all. I never actually use "professional" reviews from most of these websites anyway. I gave up on them being able to put out a decent review that I can actually trust ages ago, now I just get mine from Steam users or Youtubers like Angry Joe and Total biscuit.

The only gaming site I really visit much is the Escapist for it's forums and i'll probably always continue to come here unless it goes really downhill and despite many complaints, I don't think it's gone anywhere near that downhill enough for me yet.

Well, I now visit here about once per week rather than 3 times a day. I get more done, frankly.

I have unfollowed Moviebob and stopped watching all of his crap, but I still like Jim if only because, unlike Moviebob, he didn't just start insulting and lashing out horribly at everyone he disagreed with. He lost all of my respect and with the Gameoverthinker only getting worse, I've chosen to simply withdraw from him.

Jim and Yahtzee remain likeable.

I have also unsubscribed from the Escapist podcasts, I simply disagree with what Tito is representing as a news site.

I lost a lot of good feelings towards the Escapist staff, except Jim, Yahtzee and Crit. Miss because even if they disagree with me, they at least have a sense of humour about the whole thing.

I have found that the more I read of JonTron, the more I like him, so he got a fan.

Other than that, I will continue to play the games I like, men, women, white, asian and black protagonists all, because I will play good games regardless of which kind of ass I will be watching run for the next ten hours.

Also, this recent controversy has alerted me to Three Moves Ahead, and that's pretty bloody good. They have nothing to do with it, but I've heard about it from this.

However, if the Escapist doesn't cheer the fuck up in a month or so, I'll probably just stop coming. My life is getting busier and I'm starting to get sick of a lot of things here.

I see no problem with Quinn's private life, I see no problem with journalists being influenced. It happens all the time. Agreed. I never thought I'd miss the days where we'd get a ME3 ending thread at least once a week that would obtain a couple hundred posts. This whole thing has done nothing but demonstrate that there are a lot of assholes on the internet, and they're on both "sides" of this "war".

Edit: I guess I should answer the actual OP. It won't alter my media consumption at all. It's been an incredibly pointless issue so it shouldn't have any impact on what I do on the internet.

Nothing will be changing too drastictally. The events over the past few weeks have just confirmed what I have already suspected. Gaming publications have gone from suspected favoritism and corruption to OPEN favoritism and corruption. Youtubers have been a saving grace over the past few weeks as far as finding out what is actually happening. Basically all that has changed is I think poorly of some people I didn't think poorly of before.

Shit, I've been following the story (as best as I can for I am only mortal!) and I STILL don't see what the hell everyone is pissed off about. From what I've gathered:

-Zoe whatshername boinked a number of people. A few of said people were game journalists. Other game journalists did not report on who Zoe whatshername was boinking and therefore all game journalism is corrupt

-Game journalists and developers have basically come out and said either:
A. The shitheads that are sending death threats and whatnot are giant shitheads. Many people seem to be changing the word "shitheads" to "gamers" because most of those Gamers shouldn't exist and Gamers are terrorist articles are pretty clearly talking about the shithead part of gamers and not all gamers

B. The game journalists and developers are commenting that the gaming scene is incredibly toxic. Never mind that GAMERS have been crying this for years; it seems once the journalists/developers say it, it becomes a grave insult rather than what they themselves have been preaching. I really don't care. Anita's Video was once again "meh in production values with some interesting points", like all of her other videos. Read the first page of the Zoe thread, found it way too much drama and not enough substance as it was, and seeing what a shitstorm it's become just from the page count refuse to go in there. Gamergate raises a resounding "Okay. Don't care".

Part of it might be that if I want to be pissed off or concerned, I go look at the news.

I will be happier once I see more GAME related threads in the escapist forums. That's what I come here for.
